Repeafing fhe words of Auburn's firsf presideni, Dr. Ralph Draughon accepfed 'rhe eighlh presidenfship of 'ihis insfifufion in ceremonies held on Thursday affernoon, May I4, I949. Approximafely 4,000 persons wifnessed 'ihe col- orful program held in Cliff Hare Sfadium. The inaugural address was given by John A. Hannah, presideni of Michigan Sfafe College. Greefings +o 'rhe presidenf were delivered in brief speeches by Governor James E. Folsom, Dr. David W. Mullins, direcfor of in- sfrucfion, for fhe feaching sfaffg Dean Marion J. Funchess, for 'rhe Exfension Service, Gillis Cammack, presidenf, Sfu- denf Execuiive Cabinef, for 'rhe sfudenf body, William F. Governor Folsom and Presideni Draughon Byrd, pasf presidenf, Auburn Alumni Associafion, fhe alumni. Ceremonies of fhe day began wifh fhe dedicafion of fhe Foresfry Building, followed by a review of The Army- Navy R.O.T.C. unifs and fhe dedicafion of fhe men's new dormifory, Magnolia Hall. The Presiden+'s Luncheon was a'H'ended by delegafes and official guesfs in fhe dining hall of fhe quadrangle. The affernoon program which followed included a concerf given by fhe Auburn Concerf Band, fhe firsf presenfafion of New Horizons march by Professor Edgar Glyde, and performances by fhe Auburn Band and chorus.
