College courses are given also through the correspondence study department. Lectures and lecture courses are arranged in many centers. Regular members of the faculty conduct these courses which arc those listed in the regular catalog of the institution. The School of Home Economics offers courses in all phases leading to a wide range of occupation in practically every field open to women. It trains its students as home managers, child welfare workers, dietitians, teachers of Vocational Home Economics and numerous other positions. Miss Dana Gatchell has served as head of this department during the leave of absence of Miss Louise Glanton. The School of Chemistry affords adequate preparation for work in both pure and applied Chemistry, with an opportunity for the pursuit of graduate work along somewhat varied lines. This school also docs the basic work in Chemistry for all schools of the institution. The School of Pharmacy is a standard accredited school of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy for the training of pharmacists and pharmaceutical chemists. The Alabama Extension Service is a medium through which useful and practical information about agriculture and home economics, determined by the Experiment Station, is disseminated among the people of Alabama. Headquarters of the service is located on the campus at Auburn where specialists obtain the latest agricultural and home economics facts and furnish them to county workers, who, in turn, distribute them into the farm homes throughout the state. A closer relationship is insured to each woman student which gives increased incentive for higher scholarship as well as a desire for a more active participation in college activities. The Social Director exercises supervision of ail social events through the Student Social Committee. Visiting girls are amply cared for while in Auburn for the dances by the Dean of Women. The School of Science and Literature offers courses leading to the B. S. Degree along cultural and liberal lines, foreign service, business administration, pre-law and pre-medicine. A one-year course in pre-dentistry is also available. In addition, this school administers the fundamental scientific, cultural and literary subjects necessary for the proper training of men and women in all branches of the institution. The School of Veterinary Medicine, through its trained graduates, meets the great demand for qualified veterinarians throughout the country in the prevention and eradication of the disease of animals. A student in this department receives upon graduation the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Graduates are eligible for appointments in the Army, as well as the Bureau of Animal Industry. The School of Education this year celebrates its fifteenth birthday. Beginning in 1920 with two graduates, it has witnessed the graduation of 1,058 candidates with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. During the last seven years the School of Education has placed more than ninety per cent of its graduates.
