THE ADMINISTRATIVE IGMMITTIQE . .... I-IEN DR. Bradford Knapp resigned in the summer of 1932 as President of the Alabama Poly- technic Institute, the Board of Trustees named a special committee of six to make recommenda- tions for the filling of the vacancy created by his resignation. Instead of a president, the committee sug- gested an Administrative Committee of three members, which was accepted by'the Board, and which toolc office in August, 1932, to serve the institution in the capacity of a single executive. Three outstanding members of the faculty, Dean John Wilmore, of the School of Engineering, Director L. N. Duncan, of the Extension Service, and Professor B. H. Crenshaw, of the Department of Mathematics, were chosen as the three members of the Administrative Committee, of which Dean Wilmore was elected chairman, Professor Crenshaw, vice-chairman, and Director Duncan, secretary. Specific duties were assigned to each member, although they have at all times worked as a unit and have received the wholehearted support of the faculty and student body. They have performed faithfully, efficiently, intelligently, and courageously their additional duties without compensation other than the feel- ing and satisfaction of work that is well done. In recognition of their outstanding service to the institution, the Board of Trustees authorized the awarding to each member of the committee the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws. The degrees were officially bestowed by Governor Miller, then ex-officio president of the Board of Trustees, at the mid- year commencement exercises in Langdon Hall, January, 1934.
