STUDENT TEA CHER DA Y Student Teacher Day was planned to give interested students an idea of what the teaching field is like. Each teacher chose a student to take over his duties for the entire day. The student was expected to prepare and present the lesson by himself. Besides giving students the opportunity of viewing the class from a teacher's standpoint, the teacher was able to sit in the classroom and experience how the student feels towards the teacher's presentation of the lesson. The student teachers for the year were: Alice Bohling, Jackie Joy, Floyd Pohlman, Cathy Pohlman, Diana Oestman, Gary Obermeyer, Ron Majors, Sharon Connor, Vickie Den, Nancy Biere, Steve Bohling, Arnold Teten, Barbara Gerdes, Mary Frenzel, Judy Seid, Pat Behrends, Jim Wheeler, Jack Sheeley, Sharon Suhr, Larry McLain, Eston Clarke. 29

“THE LAST LEAF” This year's fall play was a three-act comedy entitled The Last Leaf . The characters as standing for curtain call were portrayed by Lee Gerdes, Mary Crofford, Nancy Biere, Jack Layson, Kirk Blecha, Larry McLain, Jeannie Hawley, Judy Seid, Kathy Grant, Eston Clarke, and Dennis Schneider. The central character of this play is the unconventional Lavinia Breckinridge age 77, who is the social leader of a small Southern town. Her disorganized household includes a namby-pamby son, Erskine, his Southern belle of a wife, Lilia, and an orphaned granddaughter, Clara. The plot revolves around Lavinia's inspiration to have her funeral while her fast-diminishing group of friends are still around to enjoy it. Various strategies of Erskines are used to dissuade his mother and are climaxed by his calling in a psychiatrist to examine her. Lavinia calmly tells her astounded maid, Senella, about her plans for the funeral. Mrs. Gilbert E. Wilson directed this excellent play with Mrs. William Ra-rick assisting. 30
