NA TIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The purpose of the National Honor Society is to honor those Junior and Senior students who have excelled in four areas--character, scholarship, citizenship, and service. Members are chosen by the faculty. The speaker for the ceremony was Miss Alma Ashley, Supervisor of Elementary Education At Peru. Mr. Speece gave the opening comments and Mr. Knight gave the formal induction. Diana Oestman and Ron Majors, present members, initiated the new members in a formal tapping ceremony. Those initiated were: L. to R. Vicki Den, Kathy Grant, Rick Berger, Larry McLain, Sharon Hemmingsen, Elaine Rogge, and Roberta Fisher. The Spanish Club, called Los Conquistadores, participated in the celebration of fiestas, a Christmas party which included a pinata, and a Spanish dinner held at the close of the year. Gene Ely was this year's guest speaker. Regular meetings were held during class periods and were conducted, for the most part, in Spanish. Mrs. Karl Hector is sponsor for the club. 26

STUDENT AD VISORT BOARD The S.A.B. consists of a representative from every class and organization in the school. This year they sponsored two dances, went to Nebr. City as a group exchange, participated in the March of Dimes and were in charge of convocations. This active Alpha Beta Gamma chapter, besides hearing many speakers at club meetings, made several field trips, which included Engineer's Day at the University of Nebraska, Creighton University, S.A.C. Offut, and a trip to Chicago, Illinois and Detroit, Michigan, which was the highlight of the year. Their chief money raising project for this trip was a food stand at the county fair. 28
