HAROLD Miss Srb, Miss Engles The Junior Dramatics Club was divided into a boys’ section and a girls' section in order not to conflict with other activities. Members took part in a declamtaory contest—Mary Alice Lehr won first place in the humorous division, and Mary Shirley Jimerson placed second. Frances Allen won first in the dramatic readings. Meredith Jimerson and Gwendolyn Reed represented Auburn High School in debate during the 1938 season. The question for debate was “Resolved: That the several states should adopt a unieameral system of legislation.” Debate teams composed of various combinations of the debaters made excellent records in tournaments at Atchison. Kansas; Topeka, Kansas; Doane College. Hastings College and Peru College. They also participated in an invitation tournament held at Auburn and in the district debate tournament at Lincoln. The teams took part in fifty-five inter-school debates. Twenty-two decisions were won. eighteen were lost and the other debates were not judged for decisions. Gwendolyn Reed was graduated at the end of the first semester. Bert Smith and Meredith Jimerson will be graduated this year. Tod Hubbell is a junior and Bob Hemmingscn is a sophomore. During three years Gwendolyn Reed participated in thirty-eight interschool debates, Meredith Jimerson in fifty-five and Bert Smith in eighty-five. Bert was awarded a scholarship in debate by Denver University which enabled him to spend four weeks studying in their school of speech. He is also a member of the National Forensic League. Gwendolyn Reed. Meredith Jimerson. Bob Hemmingscn. and Tod Hubbell are now candidates for membership in the League. Mr. Nebelsick, Coach
