Homecoming was the big event sponsored by the Student Body. Despite losing thc football game to the Enumclaw Hornets, 20-13, Homecoming was one of the outstanding events of the year. Under the strong leadership of the Student Council, Auburn Senior High completed another successful year. Maurice Lawson S crgeant-at-Arms SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Morro: Seek and ye shall find COLOR: Green and White FLOWER: White Iris As WE step forth into the future, we think back to 1953, when we entered the new high school as hopeful Sophomores. Our leaders were Barbara Nyberg as president, Don Cook as vice-president and Lois Botting as secre- tary-treasurer. XVe were well represented by Dolly Gonzales on the song staff. Dolly was also our homecoming princess with Roger Duprel as prince. XVe had a very successful Sophomore Hop, the Touchdown Twirlf' The next year we came back as striving juniors under the enthusiastic leadership of Don Cook as president, LeRoy Sparhawk as vice-president, and Dolores Allard as secretary-treasurer. The boys went out full force for sports this year, and were well supported by Dolly Gonzales, Glad'delle Domholt, and Eleanor Nelson on the yell staff. Chosen to reign over the homecoming festivities were Eleanor Nelson as princess and Bob johnson as prince. The juniors heartily participated' in plan- ning and decorating for the junior-Senior Ball. The theme was Snowflake Serenade. The long awaited day has arrived. It is September 7, 1955, and we are now the mighty Seniors. XVe rolled under way with Sam Martin as president, LeRoy Sparhawk as vice-president, Roger Brown as secretary-treasurer, and Sam Lawson as sergeant-at-arms. Our student body leaders were Chuck Black- smith as president, Dick Brady as vice-president, Sharon Brandt as secretary, and Dorothy Tonstad as treasurer. Our class of 56 was ready for big things ahead. Excitement filled the air as the football season arrived. Although our championship football dreams were not fulfilled, the senior boys participated wholeheartedly trying to put the Trojans on top. The team chose Roger Dup- rel as honorary captain, and Dick Brady received the coaches, achievement award. Glad'delle Domholt and jerrene Tate represented us on the yell staff with Diana Sedgemore and Dolly Gonzales on the song staff. One of the biggest events of the year was homecoming. History repeated itself when Dolly Gonzales and Roger Duprel were chosen to reign over the festivities as Queen and King. The big homecoming game was a thriller with the Enumclaw Hornets nosing out the Trojans 20 to 13. XVith the end of the football season, our attention turned enthusiastically toward basketball. -As the season progresses, we have hopes of attending the district tournament. The seniors, Bob johnson Qcaptainj, Don Cook, Sam Mar- tin, Roger Duprel, Ron Behrbaum, Stuart jones, Floyd Knudtson and Dick Brady are keeping the Trojans in the thick of the battle. The Seniors turned out with full force to make the junior-Senior Ball the success it was. The theme was Cupid,s Capers. As we, the class of 1956, go forth to seek further success, we can always look back and be proud of the many achievements of our three years in Auburn Senior High School. uns... ' 'MN mardi? GIRLS CLUB XVork hard, participate in all the Cirls' Club activities, and you will hc awarded your honors at the Mother-Daughter Banquet next May. These sage words of advice were giveh by President Kay Mulholland to the assembled girls at the Erst Girls' Club meeting. Her advice was evidently well-taken, for many girls will rcccivc pins in May. This has been a very active y.ear for Girls, Club. Activities got under way with the selling of candy and coffee at the football games. The girls who sold, and incidentally nearly froze themselves, at those games have something to be proud of because they earned the Cirls' Club treasury a good sum of money. In November there was an excel- lent chancefor the girls to win points working on the annual Tolo, Blues in the Night. The decora- tions wcre clever and sophisticated, and all agreed that the 1955 Tolo was indeed a grand affair. F UT RE FARMER OF AMERICA The Auburn Chapter of the Future Farmers of America participated in many activities this year among which was the Northwest junior Livestock Show. Our chapter had the greatest number of animals entered by any one chapter. There were 25 steers and 22 hogs. The judging team also participated and came out with high honors. At the Enumclaw Spring Dairy Show our judging team and our cattle showman walked away with most of the prizes. All boys who have any kind of livestock entered the Puyallup Fair. Our cattle judging team took fourth place in over-all judging and first place in the Guernsey class. The cattle judging team participated in several contests at various places including the Puyallup Fair, Carnation. Aldara, Portland International Livestock Exposition, and several local farms around Auburn and Kent. The Auburn Chapter also participated in crop judging at Auburn, Bellingham, and Monroe. The chapter then went to Buckley for the parliamentary procedure contest in which we placed third. The most important project for the Art Club and Art Classes was an enjoyable field trip on March 7, which included visits to the Seattle Art Museum, the Henry Gallery on the University campus, and the Frederick and Nelson State Scholastic Award Show. The Clulfs annual Masquerade Balln provided Halloween fun for many Auburn High students. All in all, 1955-56 has been a worthwhile year for the Art Club. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA In September swarms of Auburn girls in mismated shoes and wearing clothes backwards took part in an informal initiation of the Future Homemakers of America, one of the largest all-girl organizations in the United States. Getting the year rolling, we attended the regional convention at Federal Way on October 16. We served at the homecoming tea and entered a float in the parade. Next we became Santa's helpers and filled stockings for hospital- ized veterans. After the first of the year we had our formal initiation and emblem service. The highlight of our club year was the Annual Father-Daughter Banquet. This year every girl in Senior High and her father was invited. The chapter attended the State Convention in March. Also a number of Future Homemakers attended the demonstration day in Sumner. We rounded out an active year with a gala style show and the formal installation of new officers at a tea for our mothers. Disbanding for the summer, we left behind an enjoyable, memorable year with best wishes for much luck and success to next year's F.H.A. CAROL BOWLER Mas. HTHE FORTUNE TELLERM Une of the outstanding musical and dramatic events of the year was Victor Herbert's operetta, The Fortune Teller, capably dir.ected by Mrs. NVilma Hamilton. The story of the operetta is concerned with a lost lottery ticket and many complications involv- ing soldiers and gypsies and much colorful singing and dancing. To save her brother who has ap- par.ently deserted the army, Irma, the heroine, must marry Count Berezowski Whom she neither loves nor wants to marry. In the end, it is found that her brother has not deserted but is on a confidential mission for the king. Irma marries the man she Wants, and her brother stays in the army. The Fortune Teller was a success largely because of the help from many teachers and students. In addition to Mrs. Hamiltonis dramatic direction, Mr. George McKee trained the soloists and chorus and conducted the entire production. Mr. Irvin VVright trained the orchestra which performed splen- didly. Student directors included Steve Lightle for drama and Faye Callahan for the dances. Other faculty sponsors and student chairmen included Mr. John Davis and Ierry Smith fstage construction and paintingl, XVildora XVilliams Cstage settingj, Mr. Zollinger, Mr. Kelly, and Pat McMullen Cprop- ertiesj, Mr. Stumpf and lean Emsley fprogramsj, Mr. Hostetter Qticketsj, Mr. Davis, jim Adamson, Floyd Knutson, and Bob NVilson Cpostersb, Mr. Larin and Karlene Pautzke Cadvertising and publicityl, Miss Pursell and Mary Schwieger Cushersj, Mrs. Dupree and Carol Bowler Qcostumesj. --D- Al l than K ' 'qgftxg THE FORTUNE TELLER Top, Left to Right, Standing-Royal Hussars John Norris, Bob Lloyd, Tom Matson, Art Curtin, Bill Farrow, Dave Jones, George McCormick, Center Center Center Lower Lower Lower Charles Larson, Bob Davis, Daryl McG1enn, Fritz Laugteldt, Dick Beasley. FOOTBALL - 1955 The 1955 Trojan squad, outmanned and outweighed in al- most every contest, showed the courage and drive of a spirited but inexperienced team. Opening the season against a supposedly strong Snohomish team, the Trojans romped with ease to a 39 to 0 victory. In the Trojans second pre-league game, they lost a hard fought battle to the Red Raiders of Bellingham, 14 to 6. The Trojans were now ready for their first conference game, but met defeat at the hands of the high spirited Clover Park eleven, 20 to 0. Aubum next played host to the Puyallup Vikings who emerged with a 20 to 6 win over the Trojans. The following week found the Trojans travelling to Renton where they lost a 25 to 0 ball game. They finished in a tie for sixth spot. For one of the pre-season non-league games, the Trojans flew to Victoria. This was the first time any Aubum athletic team had ever flown. The Trojans showed excellent passing and shooting ability at times during the season, and got their share of rebounds with Bill Boyer and Don Cook dominating the boards in almost every game. Bob john- son played excellent ball and carried the team on ottense. Bill Boyer, Sam Martin, Don Cook and Roger Duprel proved themselves adequate in total team offense. Strong support was given in reserve roles by Ron Behrbaum and Stuart jones who came through Well in several games. The Vernon Hall Inspirational award was Won by Don Cook for his outstanding job. Bob john- son won the Scholarship award by maintaining the highest grade point average during basketball season. Bob johnson also was named Honorary Captain for the 1955-1956 season for his leadership. The Trojans should have a tournament team next year with one returning letterman and an excep- tionally strong squad. ,,,':g1.f::5f.5 LOUIE'S SHELL SERVICE 2':fz.1i.1iSii.:5,... YELL AND SONG STAFF We're With You Team, So Fight! Fight! Fightli' This was one of the most popular phrases heard during Auburn's pep assemblies and games throughout the school year. Our yell and song staff commenced a successful year of activity by attending the Puget Sound Yell Leaders' Con- ference at Franklin Pierce. Win or lose, the yell and song leaders were on hand to keep school spirit aroused among the Auburn rooters. The yell and song leaders of 1955-56 deserve a resounding cheer for their efforts to raise school spirit at the games. ,p'fZiofS51lf The J. C.
