Despite the early hour, all were excited and looking forward to all the places they would visit. Nights were spent in Junior Academies along the route, with an hour or two each evening for recreation. Breakfasts consisted of boxed cereal, milk, juice, and something prepared beforehand by the cafeteria. Lunches were quickly made sandwiches slapped together each morning. YUMIYUM! How could they have existed without evening meals at McDonalds? It seemed there was never enough time in a day to get things done. Always a set time to be at a certain place, a tour to be taken, a slide show to see, a lecture to hear, and journals that had to be kept up to date. Though there was a lack of time, hot water, and beds they all enjoyed themselves, and are glad they got to go. 76 LEADERSHIP Leadership Conference September 21-23, and Bible Camp, Septem ber 25-28, were held at Camp MiVoden, Idaho. Those who went to the camps said they enjoyed them very much. Between the meetings there was plenty of time for recreation, which consisted of swimming, canoeing, water- skiing, sailing, etc. Many also took along their favorite hobbies to work on . . . like Youth Guidance, Algebra II, and U.S. History . . . What fun! Four girls, whose names will not be mentioned, decided to take a canoe, and go exploring. What they didn ' t know was that you ' re suppose to stop paddling when you reach shore! And they ' re our school leaders! It was good fun, and a learning experience, and will bring back memories for years to come. c o N F E R E N C E BIBLE CAMP 77 VILLA GE PEOPLE Village students are the majority of the school population. Although it ' s harder for them to keep up on the on-campus social life, they have home- cooked meals, have their own stereo set-up and are able to escape campus on a regular basis. We can ' t forget to mention loving moms at home to keep them in line. 78 One of the biggest undertakings this year was the completion of the new Church. After many setbacks it was finally completed in early April. It ' s wonderful to have such a beautiful place to worship. It adds alot of positive spiritual feelings to have a special place to honor God. We are extremely grateful to all those who supported us, and gave us their time with this project. O U R N E W C H U R C H 79 CO tn Co C L U B The ushers club is a group of students who do all the dismissing at chapels, vespers, and other special programs. Their job is to make sure that the people leave in an orderly manner, and don ' t louse things up by pushing and climbing over each other to get out. Although relatively unknown, these students, who possess a courage known to few, play a large part in the campus assemblies. Not many would dare to take on such an endangering occupation. 80 The religious activities on campus do serve a unique purpose. They are designed to help the students bring themselves closer to God. As Christians, this is our main objective in life. To assist us in our Christian development, we have Bible Camps, Weeks of Prayer, Vespers, Afterglows, and, of course, Church and Sabbath School. If a spiritual strenghening is desired, The Academy provides ample opportunity. R E L i G i Co o STUDENTS WEEK OF PRA YER We chose ten of our fellow students to share with us their thoughts on the Paths of Life. Most of the student speakers drew on personal experiences to illustrate their points. Everyone enjoyed hearing his friends speak, and the speakers in turn gained a rich blessing. Our friends who shared Christ with us were: Darrell Erwin, Lisa Knight, Randy Couch, Pierre Jackson, Lisa Anderson, Jill McCombs, Voni Burden, Julie Anderson, Forrest Crowell, Kathy Bottomley. Every year hundreds of pamphlets are passed out in hopes that someone will come to Christ. The students enjoy getting out and singing. The enthusiasm was greater this year than many times in the past and we came very close to reaching our goal. Despite the rain and cold, it was alot of fun. 85 86 87 kn 0 E-h - 88 89 F A f j The annual Fall Festival was held on October 19, and thanks to our wonderful ASB officers and their sponsors it was a great success. The theme of the program was CIRCUS and the gym was literally overwhelmed with clowns. The ringmaster and a lion- tamer also showed up. The favorite events were the Dunk Tank, Slide and Mini Golf Course. The Seniors also profited from their Cotton Candy Booth. The program was wrapped up with a Laurel and Hardy film. 90 yi A M A T E U R H O U R Dynell Weber Greg Dorland Gloria Hiten ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE, AND ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN MERELY PLA YERS William Shakespeare Victor Manullang Forest Crowell Ted Stream, Lisa Moore, David Merrill Jeanna Weber 92 Dixie Ritchie Shona Schwisow 93 Class of 1981 was honored in a special vespers, with Elder Leonard Jaecks as the speaker for Senior Recognition. The annual rain festival, held from January 1st to December 31st each year, exceeded its limitations during our ski season. We must appologize for Mother Nature ' s lack of control this year. She was a bit ill after visiting a cousin in L.A. for Christmas. I believe the smog affected her more than was expected. She has promised to keep the rain down where it belongs next year. O 100 101 102 Out on the court we witness alot of skill and concentration. It is not w hether we win or lose, but how many times we get tripped, shoved around, and fouled that really matters. If a guy manages to get through the game uninjured, he is doing great. Actually, the sportsmanship in the games is to be commended. They get out there and do their best, and have a good time. The time spent out on the court, getting sweaty and tired, or sitting on the bleachers yelling for our favorite team, will never be forgotten 103 104 Now here we have the girls. Never before have we seen such skill and finesse! What grace! What precision! And talk about organization . . . You mean I have to dribble the ball while I ' m running? . . . Where does ' forward ' play? . . . You told me to steal the ball, how am I supposed to know I can ' t use Karate! . . . No one told me we changed baskets at half-time! . . . Wait! I just broke my fingernail! Really, they ' re pretty good. They do their best and have alot of fun. With each game the competition gets tougher, and the girls get better. 105 106 STANDINGS Boys ' Volleyball Faculty Couch Sivestri Aboujaoude 3-man-Volleyball Couch-Thornton-Kurian Girls ' Volleyball Couch Dougliss Hauge Acton 107 108 109 c A R C L U B THE MEMBERS OF THE CAR CLUB ARE: Carl Olsen Todd Davies Russ Hanscom Jeff Rasco Richard Zabaraschuk 110 The Canoe Club members enjoy either lake or white water canoeing on any Sunday with good weather. Mrs. Farver, Mrs. Langseth, and Mrs. Mundy do a good job of preparing wholesome meals in a cheerful atmosphere. And if you ' re not hungry, why not go for the social life? Many students find that mealtime is almost the only time during the day when they can see their friends. We all appreciate the hard work of the supervisors and the employees of the cafeteria. 112 Ever wonder who keeps Auburn Campus looking so neat? Grounds workers, under the supervision of Mr. Mundy, mow the lawns, keep the leaves from cluttering the walks, and generally keep the campus looking good. We ' re grateful to Mr. Mundy and the grounds workers for all the time and effort they put into doing such a good job for the academy. G R O U N D S 113 Mr. Bender, the man behind the operation of Harris Pine Mills, is a very understanding person, who works things out for the supervisors and students that are employed there. H.P.M. is a manufacturer and producer of furniture, and a major job opportunity for students. 114 The Greenhouse, which raises many different types of plants, employ a number of students from the Academy. Because of the low-hanging plants, the average height of the workers is 5 ' 5 . (haha) Two workers, Tony Morris, who has been there three years, and Barb Butterfield, who has been there for two, have become a tradition around this place of green.
