IK| : J alnier Vijta Pul?linked by tke cd Aociated Students of cduburn cdcade my 1950 foreword The Rainier Vista of 1950 is intended to keep alive the pleasant memories of Auburn Academy. It is to help us relive the well-spent hours of study, of work, and of play. When our academy days are over, let us turn again the pages of this book and relive those happy days. J dedication We affectionately dedicate this book of memories to our Christian parents whose unlimited sacrifices have made possible our achievements. They have encouraged us over the rough spots and have showed an unfailing interest in our activities. To them, in a large measure, goes the cre dit for any success. We gratefolly thank them, our parents. Auburn Academy was founded many years ago to help our youth to reach that objective. Today it is still pursuing the same objective as it trains youth for work in God’s great cause and for life’s responsibilities. Today is the day of opportunity. Never was there a time when reliable, well-trained, and consecrated young men and women were in greater demand. Youth of today, build now that Christian character which will stand in the future. “Our todays and yesterdays are the blocks with which we build.’’ WILLIAM LAY. W. M. Friday evening vespers, early Sabbaih morning seminar meetings, M. V. services and chapel exercises, are remembered as the times when God’s spirit came closest to us. Our hearts were bound together more closely than ever before during the two weeks set aside for spiritual devotion — those meetings where we realized more than ever our need of a Saviour and His willingness to save us. The spiritual atmosphere of Auburn Academy is its most important contribution to our lives, both now and in the years to come. BOYS’ WORSHIP GIRLS ' WORSHIP SEMINAR SABBATH-SCHOOL CLASS J earn bg Organizing Training for leadership is another essential of Christian education. This training is best secured in the clubs and activities which are the “spice of life” at Auburn Academy. The principles of organization are learned painlessly while we are enjoying ourselves. From our activities, both spiritual and cultural, we also gain a knowledge of the value of cooperation with our fellow classmates and teachers. Just ask anyone — activities are fun ! c4. S. Thinking?? 11 e PehearAe and Perform Over the campus float the strains of sweet music, which plays a very important part in our school life. Music is a precious gift and truly the language of the soul, an art found not only upon ihe earih, but also in heaven. It has been our privilege to take part in musical activities of ihe highest quality this year, for Auburn Academy considers music, both sacred and secular, a necessary part of education for her young people. oir As we look back over the year 1949-50 we realize that there would have been an empty space without our Auburn Academy choir. The choir breathed a prayer of invocation for the Sabbath hour of worship, and present¬ ed a sermon in song as the members blended their voices in the rendition of the beautiful anthem or stately hymn. In addition to the regular Sabbath appearances the choir, assisted by outside talent, added to the pleasure of the Christmas season by the presentation of Handel’s oratorio, “The Messiah.” cAcademy Sand We are very proud of our Auburn Academy band under the able direction of Mr. Mitzelfelt. It has proved a source of delight and enjoyment for all of us who participate in it and for those who listen. A highlight of the year was the program given Satur¬ day evening, April 8, when the band appeared, for the first time in uniform. Band officers in uniform appear on the preceding insert. The gymnasium affords a place for basketball, volley ball, or skating in any weather, while this year’s cold snap brought winter sports into the foreground. Baseball and hiking enthusiasts have had an opportunity to develop their ability, while those who prefer quiet have indulged indoor hobbies. IN ACTION r : BASKETBALL TEAM SKATING HOBBY CLUB %Ve earn While Jgsarning Auburn Academy offers to every ambitious student the opportunity to work part of his way in one of its various lines of industry. Dependability and responsibility are essentials in any office. Patience is developed in correcting papers. Regularity and industry are indispensable on the truck, in the shop, or in the boiler room. The development of these qualities is a part of Christian education which may be secured while the student earns part of his way. %tZ Iff. |; CORRECTING TEST PAPERS REGISTRARS IN THE MAKING WORKING ON STATEMENTS 1 IRONING THOSE SHIRTS DINNER IS READY CLEAN UP CREW THE FAITHFUL FIREMEN FURNITURE PRODUCTION LINE PREPARATION FOR NEW SIDEWALKS Student J oHer ALCORN, CAROLYN, Rt. 1, Box 400, Auburn, Washington ALLEN, ELSIE, 76 Queensway, New Delhi, India ANDRY, ROBERT, 1313 So.
