V- '- Foofball 1 As we turn back the leaves of the 57 pig- skin season, we find the Camels playing host to the West Charlotte Lions in their first con- ference game of the season. After four quar- ters of playing time the Camels chalked up their first victory. With the smell of success, the Maroon and Golders, led by quarterback John Thomas, pushed over five touchdowns and four extra points to defeat Second Ward of Charlotte for their second victory. Traveling to rocking city of High Point, the Atkins eleven invaded William Penn Tigers and cramped away with a revenging victory. Before a large crowd, two undefeated and untied teams met on the Atkins gridiron, when the Camels played host to Dudley High of Greensboro. After the two immovable forces battled for four periods, the contest ended in a tie. With end Thurmond Evans racing the length of the field on the opening kick-off, the Atkins gridironers invaded the Highland Rams and blanked the Gastonia eleven. While racking their ancient rivals, the Yel- low Jackets, the Maroon and Golders crushed the Carver gridmen at Bowman Gray Stadium, for their fifth conference victory. Taking the road again, the Camels traveled to Raleigh and strolled away with a decisive triumph over the Little Blues.
