We do so as we realize that we must leave. First: To Mr. J. A. Carter, our principal, we give our heartiest thanks for a profitable and eventful stay here at Atkins High School. Second: WC'will our utmost appreciation and prayers to the faculty. Third: To our successors, we will our loyalty, intelligence, dignity, and our determination to acquire the best things in life. Caldwell wills his place in the Crown and Scepter Club to James Patterson. Frank Joyner wills to Edward McCoy his football ability and his painting overalls to Charles Workman. Billy Parham is the recipient of Marcellus Penn's position in the Dramatic Club and his position on the football team. The quiet and conservative manner of Walter Shipp goes to James Clark. Milton Speight wills his height to all the short Atkinites. The personality and charm of Joseph Thompson A goes to Spencer Mc- bCurry. Howard Wilson wills his ability to get physics to Fred Thornton. Clarice Graham receives Na- thaniel Wiseman's ability to get physics and his scholastic ability goes to William Bryant. Alice Brad- ley is the heiress to Katherine Bradley's seat in the physics class. Virginia Bradley wills to Loretta Harris her seat in physics class and her seat in the band to Sadie Gregory. The recipient to Dorothy Caldwell's ability to talk softly is Virginia Rorie. Aurelia Carter wills her typing ability to Azzaria Baxter and her everlasting determination to all the Atkinites she is leaving behind. Doris Cockeram wills her physics possessions to Lonnie Cockeram. Hazel Coppedge wills her seat in typing class to Josephine Charles and her ability to get physics to Vivian Lewis. Clarice Graham is the recipient to Maggie Cunninghamis seat in physics class and her ability to get French goes to Imogene McKnight. Lillie Hall wills all her love to James Polite and her ability to get French goes to Madie Hall. Inez Hughes is the heiress to Ar- lethia Harris' faith in herself. Eleanor King wills her seat in the library to Ulmort Miller, and her ,French ability to Emma King. Dorothy Kirby's ability to get social science goes to Andree Thomas. Dorothy Latham receives Geraldine Lucas' ability to cook. Margorie Morgan wills her musical talents to Alice Bradley and her basketball ability goes to Carrie Cunningham. Margaret J. Robinson wills to Billie J. Baulware her seat in physics class and sense of humor to Mamie Sales. Zenobia O'Neil is the lucky heiress to Willie F. Smith's physics notebook and Willie F. Smith's position on the Maroon Wave staff goes to Thomasina Carraway. Deloris Solomon wills her musical ability to Rubena Brown and her seat in the French class goes to Vzirdell Solomon. Fred Ingram is the heir to Martha Stephens' smile and affection. Mildred Thornton's ability to get along with others goes to Vivian Lewis and Doris Williams. Hasker Samuels receives Margaret Watts' seat in physics class and her physics notebook. Her ability to get along with boys goes to Doris Quest. Ethelyne Wilkes wills her rope to Zenobia1O,Neil, her dirty saddle oxfords to Azzaria Baxter and her French tam to Shirley Williams. In the first act the actors show signs of stage fright and in the Freshman-Sophomore debate three of the actors, Samuel Tucker, Marjorie Morgan and Janet Macon, tried so hard that they all fainted. Anneize Williams, Maggie Cunningham, Willie Frances Smith and Nathaniel Wiseman win Crown and Scepter Club Honor Certificates for their outstanding academic achievements. These freshmen participate in many activities during the first act and as the curtains close they show promise of being outstanding students. The curtains part for act two in September, 1947. The actors are becoming more confident, bolder and wiser now that they are sophomores. Frank Joyner, Walter Murray and James Steen demonstrate their athletic ability on the football team The sphomores give a sample of their dramatic talent as Aurelia Carter stars in The Dead of Night Once again the academic ability of the sophomore class is shown as they dominate the Crown and Scepter Club's awards day. Those who received awards were Mildred Thorton, Maggie Cunningham Anneize Williams, Willie Frances Smith, Nathaniel Wiseman and John Caldwell. In intramural basketball led by Lillie Jackson, Gertie Mack and Roselle Morrison, the sophomore girls cop the school championship. The curtains are closed on act two and the weary brain-tired actors pause for a three-month inter mission. The beginning of act three is highlighted by the election of Arneize Williams, John Caldwell, Mild red Thornton, Nathaniel Wiseman, Willie Frances Smith and Maggie Cunningham to the Crown and Scepter Club. XVe hear many timely discussions on Junior Town Meeting by Frank Joyner and Joe Thompson. Nathaniel Wiseman is elected President of the Student Council over his senior opponent. Marshall Hairston, Hazel Rhynes, and Harold Hauser are a few of the hard working members of the Student Council. Stranger in the Night finds Lois Haley and Lawton Kelly making their first stage appearance. Lillie Jackson, Willie Frances Smith and Marcellus Penn receive honors for work done in The Midnight Son while Dwight Caldwell, Charmin Hairston and Frank Joyner triumph in Oh Doctor. Two members of the juniors class enter the field of journalism as Willie Frances Smith and James Boyd become members of the Maroon Wave staff. In athletics, the junior class is well represented. James Steen and Francis Simms are outstanding on the line while Walter Murray and Frank Joyner show brilliant form in the ball carrying department Lawton Kelly demonstrates his oratorical ability by winning the annual oratorical contest. The Junior-Senior Prom, the most anticipated event of the year is the last scene in act three. Act four, the climax of this great drama finds several new actors upon the stage. These are the con servative persons who finish high school in three years. They are Bennie Martin, Willie Lou Brooks Howard Wilson, Abner Goodman, Lucy Summers and Price Freeman. The actors are now dignified and more detrmined in their efforts. Frank Joyner is captain of the football team and aided by Francis Simms, Lawton Kelly, Charles Glenn, James Steen, Walter Murray and Marcellus Penn, leads the team through a successful season. Ruth Dunlap becomes Miss Atkins High as the senior dig deep and win a popularity contest. In basketball Francis Simms is the only representative. Great contributions are made in drama as Marshall Hairston, Dwight Caldwell, Allen Holmes, Ann Martin and Charles Crumblin give thrilling performances. In the Student Council Lawton Kelly serves as president and Nathaniel Wiseman is vice president As the play nears its ending each actor has the same goal-graduation. The curtain is closing on the Class of '50 but each member of the cast hopes that the class will serve as a source of inspiration and good spirit to all future classes of Atkins High School. Mary Caldwell will: her biology book to Andree Thomas. and Marv's ability to get along with others goes to Helen Shell. Haywood Caldwell is the heir to Nancy Caldwell's voice. Anna Clement wills her ability to talk and get along with others to Thelma McCoy. Lula Gra- ham wills her extensive vocabulary to Rosa Hawkins and Evelyn Fulp. Hazel Gwyn wills her love of music to Arneize Moore. Lois Ann Haley wills to Evelyn Ship a joke book so that she can learn some new ones. To Vera Reid, Lois leaves a scooter so that Vera can get from one boy to another faster. Arnette Head wills to Janie Crowder a notebook to take to all classes. Rosa Humble wills her height to Edith Scott and her ability to get along with the teachers goes to Edith Speight. Nellie Naylor is the recipient to Anne Johnson's ability to get along with others and her problems notebook goes to Betty Jean Hall.
