EXECUTIVE CGUNCIL Our Executive Council held its first meeting of the year on Sept. 21, 1942 and this proved to be a red letter day in the history of A.U.H.S. because from this meeting emerged perhaps the most brilliant and active Council since the founding of our school. And this was an act of fate, too, because had these members been of an inferior and lazy nature, they would not have withstood the flood of problems which have faced them since that notable morning. Take, for example, that little incident about our negligence in using the walk which was prepared for our convenience in walking to and from town. What did our Council do? They simply met on the morning of September 23, 1942, and decided to post on the bulletin board the pictures of those who persisted in this practice, so that all might behold the offenders in their glory. Of course even this didn't pry into the pride of all, but it did have noticeable results. And then there was the squabble which arose over the Seniors' reception of the Freshmen. It seemed that most Seniors desired to have their shoes polished and shined by the Freshmen, just the way they had been required to do when they were Freshmen. Now our Council seemed to agree that this wasn't too severe, that is, if it wa.sn't car- ried to extremes. So our Council went into their chambers of judgment on the morning of September 23, 1942, and emerged a few minutes later with a grant to this request. The only amendment was that the Seniors should provide their own shoe polish so as to prevent the eradication of some of our Freshmen's funds. The Council also ruled that the money which was to be used for the reception of the new Freshmen, be taken from the general fund as has been the practice in the past. Perhaps the most useful service performed by the Executive Council this year was providing for the erection of bicycle stands for the use of students. The number of bicycles being brought to school has increased daily since the scarcity of tires and gastr line has become prominent. lndeed they were even beginning to give our school a clut- tered look until the Executive Council stepped in and produced a solution. Bicycles were seen in every conceivable nook and one could hardly walk without the fear of collision. However, soon after a committee had made a special report of the condition to our Council, at the meeting of October 5, 1942, there appeared a set of very badly needed bicycle stands in an obscure, but nevertheless handy location. Yes, indeed, whether we have noticed it before or not, we do have a good repre- sentation of our school in our Executive Council.

FOCUS-Are now working under the hard- ships of rationing but are doing splendid work. PRE-FLIGHT-New course for boys about to be inducted into some branch of the service. PRINTING-lX'Ir. Hamman's printing classes have printed such things for the school as: room slips, program slips, and requisitions.
