The week was full of festive activities beginning with Hat and Tie day. Senior Slave day. The 5km foot race (which made money for the winning class and Mountain Rescue), Hushbutton day, School Colors day, and of course the annual parade. The football game was not a win, but was exciting. The dance was held at Andre's and was a big success. He lived his life not caring what others said about him, and Troy tried to live life to the fullest. He was a good friend to many of the students at Aspen High School. Whenever there needed to be a shoulder to lean on, or when a friend was needed to talk with, Troy was there to help. His life tragically ended on the night of November 19, 1985. It was a great shock to the entire student body at Aspen High. We will all miss Troy very much, but we will remember the good times. The Skier's placed second in both the NWL and Sub-District Tournament. The team should have been able to go to state, with their second place win in the Sub-District Tournament, but missed out because Eagle Valley had won all their league games. Coach De pulled the team out of the league which was disappointing, but felt to be in the best interest of the team. The team was as strong as they could be with their inex- perienced players. They didn't win any games this season, but they played tough and made it one year full of exper- iences they won't forget. The seniors tried hard to support the team and help make the younger players better. They never gave up hope and influenced the younger players greatly. It was a great week for all the students of Aspen High School. The week featured Beach Day, Woodstalk Day (60's), and Color Day. The Cheerleaders sold carnations during the week and ended the week with a pep rally that everyone enjoyed. The students and faculty of AHS won't forget that week of a Rock and Roll Fantasy . During the sixties the catalyst of pleasure was drugs, and they were abused. In the fall of 1985, Aspen High School Drama Department put on stage, the play Co Ask Alice. It portrayed the downfall of a teen-age girl, Alice Aberdeen. She was intro- duced into the drug scene through LSD, then she ran away from home with her best friend Chris Vertrano. The strug- gle of both parents at home, and friends away, is best dis- played in the first scene of Act II where, at the end of the scene, Alice comes home. Everything is going well until Alice is given chocolate covered peanuts laced with acid. After an extremely bad trip, Alice is put in the hospital where she recovers. While at home alone, one night, Alice is attacked by a flashback and takes an overdose of sleeping pills. When her family finds her she is dead. The play ends with the brother hold- ing the younger sister, the mother weeping over her dead daughter, and the father holding an empty pill bottle. The play is adapted from an actual diary written by a young teenage girl who, two weeks after finishing it, died. The girl abused drugs. The drama department accomplished a great feat by displaying every emotion and action vividly and life-like. They are to be congratulated. However, peer pres- sure still exists, drugs still exist, and you can not ask Alice about anything anymore. Ch eerie a ders Supporting the AHS athletic efforts and school spirit are the 1985-1986 cheerleaders. They had a rough year having no sponsor and did the best job that they could. Their participation and enthusiasm brought pride to our school and much support to our teams. Top Row: Laurel Carini Middle Row: Theresa Sullavin, Susan Sheer. Jackie Wong. Bottom Row: Racheal Babb, Kai Melville, Stacey Kalkowski. Senior Babies We came to this school excited, and unsure. And now we are more anxious and ready to mature. As we look on the past four years, we see great friends and bad times. All the parties, special friends and memories that we cherish to this day. We will always remember them in our own special ways. The past four years would not be the same without our friends. Sometimes we wish that times in our lives would never end. But it does come to an end and we all must remember. That the memories we have made will last forever. We say that we will always keep in touch but we will all soon part. And with the help of God may we keep each others memories close to our heart. This year's yearbook staff was not large, but worked hard, above and beyond the call of duty, and I give them great credit for it. As the editor of the 1986 Silver Queen, I would like to thank the people who made this book possible: Mr. Parsons, for all the support and help, Mac Kuehlman, Jack Eckart, the Sponsors who bought ads and especially the 1986 Yearbook staff. I hope this book will bring back good memories of the years at Aspen High School. Yearbook Editor Andrea Schloffer The cool June sun was high in the sky life sprang from her nourishing flank; at the sound of good-byes spread with a kiss and with the wispering rush of over flowing sap they drank. It tickled the air on that cool spring day where it came from, nobody knew Oh, so quickly taken by surprise, tears glistened ’ the c and carressing breeze blew Stand in the falling rain feel the damp air hear the wispering rush ride the unbriddled mare. Where habit was a casualty to loss so from the eye where salty tears flow let the sweet perfume of days gone by comfort those who could not go. For one can run but can not hide the flowing rock is at vour side. So set your gifts on feathered wings the devil talks and angels sing. Dancing flower on the breeze it's always there for you to sieze. Stand in the falling feel the damp air sieze the dancing fit ride the unbriddled er spok lence waves still to n and with me we move on with the trumj no more the sa, ng breeze Stand in the a feel the spring air move on with your joy Ride the unbriddled mare. by Mark Mitchell 117 I J05TF.NS I
