CLASS HISTORY On a bright sunny September morning in 1934 twenty-four eager children trotted to school to begin their long journey toward graduation. The se beginners were: Fannie Beglau, Wilber Klein, Lorraine Bollinger, Loretta Klipfel, Walter Breitling, Clara Meske, Mercedes Eisenbeis, Justus George, Constance Gulliford, Amanda Harter, Arlene Hein, Lloyd Kempf, Bernice Klein, Harold Klein, Violet Reile, Floyd Schock, Sally Wishek, Colin Stepper, Ronald Stube, Melvin Walz, Olga Dobler, Milton Schaeffer. Miss Hendra Klabo was our instructor. Our picnic was held at Andy Ander- son's grove. In the second grade Miss Leona Hildenbrand was our teacher. Because of unfavorable weather the picnic was held in the classroom. The third grade found us in the new schoolhouse. Our classroom was so much larger that we almost felt lost. Miss Mildred Drews was our instructor, Miss Wanda Carlson began teaching the fourth year but accepted a position in Bismarck, so Miss Anne Stangler took her place and remained our teacher throughout the fifth grade. Mr. Mansager began a tonette band which performed on several occasions. Miss Schulz. was our sixth grade teacher. She began a Junior Chorus. Geog- raphy scrapbooks with fancy covers were made. Our picnic proved to be an exper- ience for all of us when a car got stuck in quick sand. The Senior class was hav- ing a picnic nearby and came to the rescue. Seventh grade our picnic was held at Beaver Lake. Almost all of the students went wading too deep and spent most of their time on the roof of a cottage drying their clothes. Eighth grade we had several large parties during the year. It seemed much easier than former grades because this year we had only four subjects. The grad- uation speaker was Governor Moses. HIGH SCHOOL Our first year in high school began with an enrollment of 66 members, Af- ter initiation everyone felt much older because then we were officially members of the high school. In t.he spring we devoted many class periods to hikes, but were very much disappointed when rainy weather prevented our class picnic. Membership was decreased to 56 in our Sophomore year. This year the school put on a carnival - a practice which is still continued. The annual picnic was held at Hoskins. Because of the fine weather, many students went swimming and acquired a sun tan. The Junior year began with 44 members. Genevieve Hilscher and Iver Walker joined our class. The Junior-Senior banquet was held on May 18. The play, The Valley of Ghosts, directed by Mrs. Mabel Anthony, was given April 6. As we began the last lap of our journey there were 42 Seniors on deck. Irene Schauer left our class and moved to California. The play, Campus Quarentine, under the direction of Mrs. Reinhold Delzer, was presented January 31, May 3 and 4 the Seniors went to Aberdeen, South Dakota for skip day. On our return we spent a pleasant evening at a party the Ellendale Normal gave for all the Senior classes of the surrounding schools. Baccalaureate services were held May Z6 with Reverend Vetter officiating. Commencement took place May 29, Mr. A. C. Van Wyk, Superintendent of Bismarck Schools, was the speaker. '
