We are the only chapter in the state and one of the few across the nation that has a trip such as ours. Each summer our advisor and some of the chapter go up to Canada for about ten days. The boys sleep in tents and fish and hike in the daytime. We take side trips from the camp and are gone into the woods for a couple of days at a time. Boys earn their trips by making profit for the chapter, The boys sell such articles as: jello, garden seeds, farm magazines, scrap and also by raising hogs for the chapt er. Some of the co-operative activities include sponsoring the 4-H clubs, raising corn for the chapter’s hogs, which includes four purebred gilts, 2 artes SVT ey: Cos Bailey esd 24942 eae OL epee pegs ts aE As Nt NSE tec OS ee Editor-in-chief .. SENIOR EDITOR: TYPIST: Lois Perkins Joan Hartsock Pearl Bailey June Wilhelm MOTTO: FORWARD TO SUCCESS FLOWER: AMERICAN BEAUTY ROSE CLASS COLORS:CRIMSON AND WHITE 10 Class History Say, do you remember that hot August day when forty of us green Freshmen started struggling on our upward climb? Mr. Fee was our class sponsor at that time. We elected Janice Allen, President; Eldon Skelly, Vice-President; Janet Harmes, Secretary; Bill Stackhouse, Treasurer; Sally Mergy, Historian; and Pat Walker, Reporter. There were two parties that year, one a skating party at the Silvermoon Skating Rink. The second was a wiener roast out back of the schoolhouse and afterwards we all went to the show at Angola. April rolled around and were eager for May and vacation. The following August we began our Sophomore year with thirty-eight students. Susie Pfefferkorn, Richard Wolf, Laura Krontz, and Frank Albright left us. We got two new classmates that year who were Gilbert Spencer and Paul Chavez. Paul Everitt was our class sponsor and the elected officers were: Eldon Skelly, President; Jack Smith, Vice- President; Pat Walker, Secretary; Donald Shipe, Treasurer; Janet Harmes, Historian; and Donna Shumaker, Reporter. Only one exciting party was held that year. It was a party at Pokagon, where we played games and had a wiener roast; then we all jumped ina bus and headed for Angola to see a show, That year was a very important one. We ordered and received class rings and sweaters, -The end of the second term came at last. We found that we were half way through high school and it wasn’t a bit bad. We returned in the fall all ready to pitch in and make money for the Junior and Senior trip. We elected our class officers: Pat Walker, President; Lois Perkins, Vice-President; Janice Allen, Secretary; Annette Bender, Treasurer; Eldon Skelly, Historian; and Janet Harmes, Reporter, There were thirty-seven of us that year. Joan Kneubuhler left us and Joan Hartsock came from Avilla. We put ona play, ‘‘LOVE IS TOO MUCH : TROUBLE”’; we thought it was a big success. We had two paper drives and two bake sales. Finally the big day for the Junior and Senior trip came--four wonderful and exciting days that we will always remember: Our Senior year soon rolled around and we were on our last step of our exciting adventure at Ashley High School, We elected our class officers: Eldon Skelly, President; Janice Allen, Vice-President; Lois Perkins, Secretary;. Annette Bender, Treasurer; Pat Walker and Carroll Stout as Reporters, We went down to Roberts Studio at Fort Wayne and had our pictures taken in October. In December, we put ona play, which everyone enjoyed, called, ‘ A DANCE WITH OUR MISS BROOKS. ' We helped the Juniors with their bake sale in February because we are looking forward to that five day trip to Washington, This about finishes it for us. It has been wonderful here at Ashley, but we are now on our own. To our highly esteemed principal of public schools, Mr. Frederick, I bequeath the new book of — rulés that this present class has labored over so faithfully for the past months; said book containing provisions for an increase of holidays to one, bi-weekly, changing the hour for opening of school to nine o’clock, instead of eight-thirty, and closing at one, with two recesses — fifty-nine minutes each. Said book also recommends the purchase of a silver waiter, on which the credits of promotion be presented to the pupils, instead of the old way of studying for them. To our much loved teachers, each and every one, I bequeath a liberal yearly anunity of examination papers to grade, note-books to correct, and averages to make. To the library I bequeath all the detective stories, Wild West Magazines and other junk we prized so highly and read so carefully all year. To that same class, I bequeath the proud privilege of being Seniors and lording it over the younger ones, of always heading the lines and getting the choicest seats and food during lunch. To the Sophomores, following us, I bequeath our dignity, all our old notes which I'm sure they would prize as highly as we have and any other junk they find lying around. To the Freshmen, who are the babies of this crop, but sometimes act older than we do, all the . book reports we left half done, our years to use and years to come.
