Janet McDonald Assistant Editors Vera Richard MRS. NAN RENICK With sincere admiration and appreciation, we, the An- nual Staff of Ashland High School, dedicate the 1973 year- book to Mrs. Nan Renick for her many years of service to our school and her devotion to the teaching profession. As a fond mother, when the day is o'er, Leads by the hand her little child to bed, Half willing, half reluctant to be led, And leave his broken playthings on the floor, Still gazing at them through the open door, Nor wholly reassured and comforted By promises of others in their stead Which, though more splendid, may not please him more; So Nature deals with us, and takes away Our playthings one by one, and by the hand Leads us to rest so hently, that we go Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay, Being too full of sleep to understand How far the unknown transcends the what we know. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 5 Star Teacher Mr. Bobby Atkins Selected by the Star Student as the teacher who has made the greatest, contribution to the student's education. 6 Star Student Jo Ursery Selected in the Mississippi Economic Council's Student- Teacher Achievement Recognition Program as student with highest average ACT score. Samples Curtis Hines Ben Crum 122 Senior Class Prophecy It is the year 1990, and we, Cathryn Hicks and Jo Ursery are returning to our home town. We have been travel- ing all over the world as airline stewardesses. Driving out from Memphis we decided to look up some of our old friends, that attended Ashland High School. We hoped that we could find where most of the seniors live so they could tell us where the ones we couldn't find were living. Arriving in Ashland, we ran into Rosemary Hoyle now married to the President of the Wurlitzer Piano Factory. She told us that Jeanette Jackson had married her high school sweetheart and built a nice home. Former Sarah Morgan is now married to the Principal of the local high school. We stopped at a local shopping center and sur- prisingly found the former Ann Tipler married to the owner of the center. She leads a very easy life, no children only a dog and a bird. We learned form her that Carolln Baird is now married to the present Secretary of State, living in Washington D.C. Sylvia Elliott also married a cabinet member, the Secretary of Treasury, she often sees Frank Thompson, President of the United States. Jimmy Lakey is now recovering from his latest injury resulting from his successful attempt at jumping the Grand Canyon on his 18th Hodaka. Sherry Childers is still pushing needles at the Baptist Hospital. Mamie Baird's daughter is following in her footsteps by becoming Miss Universe of 1990. The former Gail Coleman is now listening to the pitter patter of ten little rats running around the Willard home. Eamestine Smith and Imogene Reaves are fellow airline stewardesses for another airline. Imogene and Gloria Watkins are hitting it big as models in their spare time. The grapevine reports that Waurine Cathevy is now married to the Mayor of Memphis, has four kids and is enjoying life. Unfortunately we couldn't visit the rest of our classmates but some of our old triends told us about them. Jerry Boga is married now and Governor of Mississippi. Good luck and keep on pushing. Alfred Jones is following close be- hind as Lt. Governor, still single and good looking. Bettye Simpson has made a move for Women's Liberation, as the first lady Director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. She can now wear her wings on her hat. Dianne Paige is now an actress in an upcoming hit movie. Nina Griffin after completing her secretarial course is still getting workouts, worse than those in gym, around her bosses desks. Hazel Ivy has really gone farout, she is now practicing medicine in Nairobi, Africa. Shirley Nunnally has also made a step for the Liberation movement, by becoming director of the Foreign Legion in Saudia, Arabia. Shirley Boga is now the leading star in the Mission Impossible show and is doing very well in Hollywood, California. Herman Rose is now a college professor at Ole Miss, instructing Chemistry. David Shelby is President of the McHarry Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee, married and has two children. Lois Tucker is now working as Director of Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Steve Rumsey is now Mayor Rumsey of New York, Gail bhort is working hard and a little overtime as his secretary. Peggy Beard, is now married to the Chancellor over West Germany. Frank Crawford isn't doing too bad, he's a high official in Argentina. Bonnie Thompson is hitting it big as the wife of the international playboy, Chief Advisor to President Thompson. Randy Watkins is now top mechanic on the NASCAR racing circuit. Elbert Woodard now owns three oil wells in El Paso, Texas. Stan Stone is now a bush pilot in Northwest Canada. Well this ends our grapevine news of our classmates. Yours truly, Cathryn Hicks and Jo Ursery, we wish all the 1973 SUPER SENIOR the best of luck. 123 Senior Class Will Carolyn Baird wills her ability to reason and common sense to Robert Cathey.
