THEIR EXPERIENCES HERE WERE THE MOST IMPOR- TANT EVENTS IN THEIR LIVES AT THAT TIME. MEMORIES BORN WITHIN THESE WALLS WILL ALWAYS BE CHERISHED. ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL ALMA MATER 2 OH ASHLAND HIGH, DEAR ASHLAND HIGH, WITH COLORS WHITE AND BLUE, WE PLEDGE TO YOU OUR LOYALTY, AND ALWAYS WILL BE TRUE. OH ASHLAND HIGH, DEAR ASHLAND HIGH, WE GO OUR SEPARATE WAYS, MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU TOO, THROUGH ALL THE COMING DAYS FOREWORD With the passing of time, the echoes of our school life will grow fainter and fainter, and then die away. Gone forever will be the routine of school life, the fun we had, and the friends we made. It is the hope of the 1959 MIRROR Staff that as you glance through this book in the years to come, you will recapture these moments-and the long lost echoes shall resound once more. , Editor DEDICATION To a beloved teacher who has been a source of inspiration, a wise counselor, and a loyal friend, we the Senior Class and Annual Staff of Ashland High School do herby affectionately dedicate this first edition of the MIRROR to Mrs. Robert Rutledge. Under the wonderful guidance of our first teacher. Miss Elizabeth Garrett, eight members of the present senior class, Evonne, Carole, Martha, Mary Louise, Tuwana, Yvonne, Jimmy Ray, and Billy Charles took their first toddling steps up the ladder of education. The following year, we joined with our underclassmen and presented a Tom Thumb Wedding. Jimmy Ray was the preacher and Evonne, Carole, and Yvonne, feeling very grown up in their frilly formals, tripped down the aisle as the bridesmaids. During the remaining years of grammar school many of the present seniors had joined the class. Coming from various country schools in the county were Patricia, Sarah Lou, Olene, Gracie Mae, and Kenneth. Craig and Mary Ann, bidding adieu to Saulsbury, joined us, and our brother and sister team, Wandaleen and Charles, leaving Slayden behind, were added to our roll. Coming to us from South Mississippi were Becky, of Taylorsville, and Gus, of New Augusta. Although our first six years in school had been very enjoyable, we all looked forward with much eagerness to our junior high years. Entering our seventh grade in school, we felt very insignificent as we trudged along the corridors with the upperclassmen; however, this feeling soon changed as we began to take part in the various activities of our school. During the next three years we gained and lost several members of our class. A great asset was credited to our class when Jean and Billy Gene joined our class from Walnut, and Gene joined us from Saulsbury. Looking for higher grounds was Bob, and former resident of the Delta, and completing our roll in junior high was Linda, who moved from Florence. The highlights of our Junior year were the class play, Meet My Wives , and the Junior- Senior banquet, which was centered around a graduation theme. Our sponsors for this year were Mrs. Bright and Mrs. Ray. Several classmates hod been dropped from the roll for various reasons, but we welcomed some additions also. Shady Grove's loss was our gain when five sparkling personalities in the forms of Linda Kay, Patsy, Dale, Larry, and Don joined our class. The following year we were joined by Charles, of Memphis, and making our roll complete were Carolyn and Jimmy. In the school year, 1958-1959, after eleven years of hard work and preparation thirty two seniors set out on the final leg of our high school journey, with Mrs. Renick and Mrs. Braddock as our sponsors. This year has been a very successful one, with our Halloween Carnival, which broke all profit records, and the production of our very own masterpiece. The Mirror. Alas, fellow Seniors, as we launch our ships into the vast turbulent ocean of life, may we alt strive to so anchor our lives that our Master historian will list us among the ones who made history in His Book of Life.
