Director of the complicated and diversified program of the Ashland Public Schools is Mr. W. C. Shattles, superintendent of schools. The man in charge of all money and maintenance for the schools is Mr. Ed- ward Mathis, assistant superintendent. Capable administrators Nlr. W. C. Shattles first entered the school system as assistant principal. From there he advanced to dean of lroys at A.H.S. then to assistant superintendent. ln 1956 he became superintendent of the Ashland Public schools. lVlr. Shaltles received his HS. and MA. degrees from W'estern Slate College and Marshall College respectively. Mr. E. VV. Nlathis has been in the Ashland Public School system for twenty-nine years. He has taught at Coles and Charles Russell. In I9-46 he became principal of Coles. In i956 he was appointed assistant superintendent. He received his 13.5. degree at lVlorehead State College and his MS. at the University of Kentucky. s- T A-9-
