NOVEMBER l l NOVEMBER l2 NOVEMBER l4 NOVEMBER 20 NOVEMBER 2l NOVEMBER 20 2l and 22 NOVEMBER 25 NOVEMBER 26 DECEMBER 2 DECEMBER 3 DECEMBER 5 DECEMBER 8 Ashland played the last football game of the season wlth Louusvulle on the home grndnron Ashland won by a mar gun of 45 O The Speech Class gave one of the best convocatuons a one act play Amernca Unlumlted whlch was agannst soclal and raclal preludnce The Junsor Class presented their play a three act com edy Take Your Medlcune Gene Blrdsall entertamed with two songs Apple Blossom Wedding and When You Were Sweet Snxteen between the acts The Sophomore Convocation was a one act comedy called Herbie Gets the Mumps They showed promus :ng talent for future plays to come ln later years Jackie Lewis Frank Beckman and Catherme Ballou took the Peps: Cola Scholarshlp tests They were elected for thus honor by the popular vote of the class Bull Scott Delores Gade Shnrley Bates Gene Burdsall and Rose Mary Castner represented Ashland at the Musuc Clnnnc held at Kearney thus year The Freshmen lnntnatuon was given by the Sensors an form of a Convocation nn whuch each Freshman was requured to do somethung that was given hum by a Sensor Some pranks they were requured to do were a dressung Mass Bradden took over the Study Hall for a musucal convocatuon presented by all of her students which an cluded Kmdergarten to Hugh School The Thanksgnvung theme was carrled throughout the entlre program The Basketball Season started off wnth a bang when the Ashland Bluejays knocked Lounsvnlle off their schedule by a score of 2l 40 The new scoreboard glven by the Pep Club gave an added attraction to the audlence The Football Season came to an end of a very successful year with the Athletic Banquet which was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce Mlnuature footballs served as place cards The lunchroom cooks prepared the meal which was served by ten sensor gurls Durung the meal speeches on educatuon were given by Superintendent P D Pyle Prnncnpal K C Wules and Mayor O H Lohr The Unuverslty of Nebraska Freshman coach Pop Klune was the guest speaker The program conslsted of a vocal solo by Gene Bnrdsall accompanied by Tullle Burr two selections by the trumpet trno and a humorous read Ing glven by Alan Lewns To conclude the program Pop Kline showed the tulm Nebraska vs Oregon State and explamed the plays Ashland had another vuctorlous night by defeatnng the Papnlluon quuntet on their home court Ashland won by a score of 36 l8 The Clvlcs Class, under the durectlon of Joe Moss held I I 11 - - - 11 - - - 1 I . . SEPTEMBER l SEPTEMBER l6 SEPTEMBER I9 SEPTEMBER 26 OCTOBER 3 OCTOBER OCTOBER OCTOBER OCTOBER l7 OCTOBER 20 OCTOBER 22 OCTOBER 23 2 OCTOBER 28 OCTOBER 31 NOVEMBER 7 School Calendar 185 students began a new school year 44 freshmen 50 sophomores 33 yunuors and 58 sensors The fnrst lyceum number was gnven by Elsa Moegle a harpist who had performed before executives an the White House The Bluelays lost the furst football game of the season to the College Vuew eleven The game was especnally rugged for both sides because of the swelterlng after noon College Vnew won 6 0 Another defeat was handed the Bluepays by a strong Omaha Cathedral team Thus was the first home game and was played under the lnghts before a record crowd as a part of the annual stnr up attraction A score of 7 0 was regnstered Ashland began a senes of vnctorues by defeating Platts mouth l3 7 ln a hard and fast game The maxed chorus presented a program whnch consnsted of some promusnng young voices Ashland continued :ts wlnnlng streak by defeating the Valley eleven by a score of 25 0 The second musical convocatnon was given by the an strumental department Thus demonstrated the proaress of learnlng to play an Instrument The program ended wuth several solos by the more advanced students Ashland defeated Bellevue by a 20 0 score on Bellevue s grldlron Our second lyceum number was guven by a native of the Oklahoma lnduan Reservation Chlef Youngbear gave an excel'ent explanatuon of the lnduan customs and habvts The Bluejays defeated Weeping Water by a large score of 45 0 The school enloyed a much needed vacation as the teachers went to the annual Teachers Conventaon at Llncoln The theme of the first party was hard times Everyone came as characters from a Vagabond s Holuday Some orugunal sknts were put on by the sophomore class mem bers Another vlctory for the Bluejays was played on the muddy gruduron at Blanr The players were almost unrec ognuzable as they came from the fneld at the end of the game The score was 7 0 One of the most Important and excutlng games of the season was on the nnght that we plaved the Wahoo Warriors Durlng the half the Ashland band led by the American Leguon Color Guard gave an excellent un: formed performance Governor Val Peterson and Coach Bernie Masterson were the two dustungulshed speakers for the dedlcatlon of the stadlum Ashland won by cl score of 20 0 9 - I 1 . Wules was guven by the Green Ereshues The program was composed of Iuttle nonsense rhymes guven by undu vuduals of the class and o poem Mua Carlotta guven by Lloyd Kutrell The Ashland Blueuays chalked up another vuctory to add to theur collectuon by beatung Schuyler wuth a score of 42 to 34 at Schuyler The Junuor Class presented theur convocatuon whuch con susted of an accorduon number by Catherune Thuessen a selectuon by the Gurls Truo and ended wuth Darlene Sow ards leadung the Hugh School un group sungung The Chrustmas Musuc Program was presented by the students of the enture school under the durectuon of Muss Brodden The theme was taken from The Messuah whuch was carrued throughout the program The Speech Class gave a convocatuon wuth a one act play Good Wull Toward Women Gene Burdsall Susan Sums and LaVerne Neumann gave a skut whuch was theur orugunol versuon of The Nught Before Chrustmas The Gurls Truo sang two selectuons between the two plavs Thus ended school for a week of the Chrustmas vacatuon The Senuor Class gave theur party of the season Everyone a a very enuoyable tume dancung and eatung A uuke ox supplued by the Leguon Club added to the attrac tuon of the evenung The next lyceum program was Mugraum the magucuan who enchanted the enture schov e oo uallv the younger ones as they became excut J at hu tru I4 and uests Ashland roped another vuctory as they rolled over Elk horn by a scc re of 57 to 24 Ashland had umproved sunce recent games of the season Waverly Hugh School handed the Blueuays theur furst loss of theur very successful season Ashland was wuthun one pount at the half wuth a score of 2l to 20 After that Waverly pulued away wuth 55 to 38 Ashland recovered from theur prevuous loss to Waverly by knockung Gretna off theur lust at a home game by a score of 56 to 2l The whole Ashland bench was cleared Agaun Ashland was on top of a lop suded vuctory over Mead vuuth a score of 52 to 28 Thus ended the furst semester wuth a bang' I ' . ll ' , . 4 ' II - ll ' ll ' ll - I I I ' - l2 ' ' 15 . . . . 1 . . , . .
