The Jays only scoring chances were muffed by penalties. In their first home game the Jays took an early first period lead over Cathedral when Jack Fletcher slashed off-tackle and ran twenty five yards to score standing up. The pass for extra point was incomplete. Then two short passes tallied two touchdowns for the ln- vaders and both trys for the extra point were blocked. The Blue Jay fourth quarter bid ran short of time and the game ended 12 to 6. The following week the Blue Jays journeyed to Plattsmouth badly in need of a win. A high spirited Ashland team battled to the Plattsmouth twelve yard line early ln.the first quarter only to be called back 15 yards for clipping Here the drive bogped down as did a number of others later in the Lame when the Jays seemed to get more than their share of fumbles and penalties The game ended in a scoreless tie In probably the most thrilling game of the season the Jays tied a previously undefeated, untied Valley eleven The Jays gained consistently in midfield but were plagued bv goal line fever when the yards really counted Late in the fourth quarter Baer plllged across the goal line just after the final gun, so the score re nained O to O The Jays chalked up their lirst victory by rocking Iortheast Reserves 20 to O After a first period scare, in which the Rockets drove to the Ashland twelve before losing the ball on downs, the Jays came back to score on a Tillman to Marcy pass After that the Jays we e never in trouble An over confident Ashland team was handed its third tfe ame of the season by an under rated Weeping Water eleven The Jays proved that they had what 't takes in the pinches by holding the Indians twice on the five yard line to take the ball on downs Ashland's only serious threat came in the first quarter but was nuffed by a penalty The Jays snowed under a faxored Blair eleven to the tune of 52 to O It kept the Peppers busy ettinv their plays started before bein, swamped by a spirited Plue Jay line The Jays out played their opponents through out the game Our gallant Wlue Jays topped off the 1945 season by trounclnb their traditional foe, Va oo, 15 O Ashland's first score came on a safety resultinc from a punt blocked by a fast chargln Glue Jay line Welch and Baer each scored a touchdown in the second half to cinch the victory afgiieww O 9 ' ' O 0 'O' 'ofx0.0' l' gray' fC5l Qi o R61 ' SK YD W 4 - , - Eeiamiama - A A at - - ffffffffEfEfEfEfEQEfEQEfEfE5EfEfEfEfE .. 55525555555fgigigsgigfgsgsj 1555525 , ' :aaaggga T - - ' 55555132 5555s55i555555s5352Q55:5:1 X . -r ..
