The girls aml eighty-six boys, Misses Sue Brewer. Mary Nloiiitt. Virginia Barker, and Mabel Robertson were the guid- ing stars of the "green-horns." DECEMBER The wlubs were making pro- griss. XVe found most of them interesting. Being Freshmen. we were overjoyed hy the thought or' Christmas holidays. MARCH Bastball was shoving basket- ball out of the spotlight. but our basketball teams were wag- ing some hard battles in the county tourney. Finally the boys' team emerged victorious. winning the trophy plus all the honors. SEPTEMBER The bell rang to begin the school year ot' 15u:55l-1940. Une hundred and thirty-eight "so- phistii-ated Sophiesn marched through the portals of Asheboro High School - - Sixty-four boys and seventy-four girls. At last! We had moved up from that lower rung of the ladder! No longer were we "frightened t'reshies." DECEMBER Those days before Christmas ho.idays were breathless with excitement. Around Devember toe twentieth we poured out of the school building with only one thought in mind. we were going to have a grand Christ- mas. mhspile impending exams. MARCH .Ks Mart-h winds bowled, we bowled too. After all. a fellow gets tired of studying and for- Lfets his resolutions. VVe were straining like horses at the bit for Easter holidays. .e.lQQBjQ3QDCe OCTOBER line morning the Freshmen were called into ehapel. There was an aura ut' mystery about everything. XVe trud,-:ed in. sat down. and awaited our fate. Several of the seniors ordered us to go up on the stage. Here began the Freshman initiation. What fun we had! The onion neeklaees hanging about the neeks of the frightened freshie females were hardly fragrant. but they tried to be good sports! NOVEMBER We had made most of the necessary adjustments by this time. Many of our classmates entered enthusiastically into the extra-eurrieula activities. JANUARY With our return to school rame worries of approaching exalus. We were paralyzed with fear. Vtlhat were high school exams like? They were not so bad. XVe got through the pro- eedure with few easualties. APRIL Buds were bursting from their little Aiaukets. and we were ready to burst from the school house. Spring fever spread like a swamp tire among the "Fresh- ies. ET939iQQQEEf OCTOBER VVe were really in the groove --the teaehers knew that we were no longer innocent new- comers. FEBRUARY During this month. we saw some exciting basketball games. Our New Year's resolutions to study harder were lost in the basketball schedule. MAY Finals faded into the past and before us lay an inviting vaeatiou. We were assured that next year our positions would be more dignified. NOVEMBER The football season was in swing. VVe took it upon our- selves to do a major part ot' the cheering. At this time. our sehool spirit knew no bounds. Our clubs were organized dur- ing this month. The girls busied themselves with homemakiug, while the boys turned to ath- leties. JANUARY Exams reared their ugly heads. VVe fussed and fumed and studied a little. Luckily most of us pulled through. APRIL April, month of showers. spring fever and Easter holi- days. The brief respite was in- deed weleome. We returned. determined to pass finals.
