DR. HARRY LEWIS Ph.D. Principal For three years. Dr. Lewis has been the guiding light' of Arts High School. During this time he has never foiled to live up to the students' and the faculty's confidence in him. He has exhibited his characteristic forthrightness, enthusiasm for his work, and seemingly endless amount of patience to promote the general welfare of the school. Without a doubt. Dr. Lewis is thoroughly qualified for the sometimes taxing job of being principal. After graduation from Bloomfield High School, he received his B.A. and M.A. from Montclair State College and his Ph.D. from New York University. For a time Dr. Lewis taught mathematics at Ivy Junior High and at West Side High School. In addition to helping prepare student teachers at New York University, he taught actuarial students for the New York Actuaries Club. He has been a member of the Newark Board of Examiners. Before coming to Arts High, he was chairman of the Mathematics Department of East Side High School. The goal set by Dr. Lewis for Arts High is the stimulation of the student body and faculty to greater heights of academic achievement. Plans ore in progress for the creation of more honors classes and for the provision of more modern facilities for the school. Dr. Lewis has been trying to make the citizens of Newark very conscious and proud of the high standards set and achieved by Arts High School in the art, music, and academic fields.

by PAT A. RESTAINO B.S., M.Ed. Vice-Principal Education is an eye-opener. If it serves any purpose it serves to shorpen one's view of life's episodes and to bring into more meaningful perspective the daily events of our time. The talented artist can see line, color, light, ond impression that escape those less able and less trained. So, too, the well-educated man can see more in the panorama of life than his less fortunate neighbor. The poorly edu- cated man sees only fragments of those human scenes he experiences. All too frequently, he misses that which is subtle, is insensitive to nuance, and blind to that which is foreign. So much of life just passes him by. Your school education has improved your vision but it hos not developed its full potential. There ore always flaws and blurs and this is why your education does not end here. Rather it is a life long process. The only corrective prescription for mental myopia is a life devoted to learning more each passing day.
