Realizing that the principal sets the tone of a school we are happy that Dr. Lewis chose to accept the responsibilities of leadership at Arts High. Although Dr. Lewis has been here less than one year, he has firmly established himself as a most capable administrator. His quiet dignity, his patience, his boundless energy, and his enthusiasm have helped him to overcome the problems that he encounters everyday. He has very quickly managed to get a good clear picture of the school and its intricate design. Dr. Lewis often surprises teachers and students by dropping in unexpectedly during classes or leisurely walking through the halls surveying everything with a critical eye. His optimism and cheerfulness permeate the atmosphere of the building. A firm but fair disciplinarian. Dr. Lewis has gained the respect and admiration of both faculty and students. Seniors especially appreciate his concern and interest because they have benefited from his vast experience in the field of education. Dr. Lewis is a graduate of Bloomfield High. He received his B A. and M A from Montclair State College and his Ph. D. from New York University. He taught math at Ivy Junior High and West Side High School. Dr. Lewis helped to prepare prospective teachers at New York University and also taught actuaries there. Later on he served on the Board of Examiners in Newark and. before coming to Arts, was chairman of the Math Department at East Side High School. Under the inspirational leadership of Dr. Lewis, we are confident that Arts High will continue to develop and coordinate its efforts to provide our students with the best possible educational program We hope that he will find his years here both satisfying and rewarding.
