FACULTY RUFUS J. RICKENBACHER B.A., M.A. English Department Chairman SCOPE. Student Council. English Department—all have been influenced by this man. Who can say thank you? Somehow thank you sticks in our throats. It doesn’t seem to fit. We shall all leave, but even students, we who have been here for only four years, manage to depart with a share of the profits. When he leaves us. after years of service, we shake his hand, give him an honorable discharge and say thank you . He who gave so much gets paid with thank you . We who were close to him realize that there is no appropriate fee we can offer him. When he walks out the door, what will he take with him? A yearbook. a paycheck and all our best wishes. To people who enjoy teaching as much as he did. and enjoy sharing in the experiences of their students, these will be intangible, but durable satisfactions—to know the accomplishments of his students through the years is a benefit not paid by a pension plan. Who can say good-bye to a man such as this? Some of Shakespeare’s thoughts may be more appropriate. His life has been gentle, and the elements so mixed in him that his students may stand up and say to all the world. “There goes a man!
