For Careers In Business, Industry AGRICULTURE is designed for those students who intend to make farm- ing or one of its associated sciences their life work. The classroom work is supplemented with field work which is done with many of the most modern implements. This course is open to both boys and girls. Here RICHARD POPP holds the seed to be planted, while LYLE LeCRONIER and RICHARD LUKER smooth and prepare the ground. REFRESHER MATH is a class designed to give seniors a review of the essentials of arithmetic before they graduate. This course takes the place of senior English 8 for non-college students. MISS GATZ hears JERRY MATSON’S question about one of his problems. Waiting for their turn are PHYLLIS GAYLORD, JOHN LIPPERT, and MARNA GREMEL. Arthur Hill GEOMETRY is a subject which helps students understand the intricacies of various figures. Here, SANDRA VanDERSTEIN, GIRARD WEBER, and JANET TOFT study one of the projects kefore going on with their work. CLOTHING COURSES help students to create their own clothes. DORO- THY PRESSLEY threads the machine while MARY JANE FOBEAR smoothes the material. Courses in foods and home nursing are part of the homemaking minor which may be offered for a science credit at Michigan State College for a course in Home Economics. 29

SCIENCE, MATH Prepare Hills IN BIOLOGY, the sophomore science course, lectures, class discussion, and audio-visual aids are helpful in understanding the workings of plants and animals. Here, dissecting and drawing their grasshopper are KAY BATTEN and RONALD DUBAY. GEOGRAPHY, as a science, offers a knowledge of the terrain and people around the world which helps students understand world problems. Here DICK BARTEL, DALE SWANTON, BEVERLY COX, and PAT BOYLE find a place on the map that is especially important in the news. 28 IN CHEMISTRY, the senior science course, through lectures, taking notes on the discussion, and writing papers on special projects, the students find the chemistry of everyday life. DAVE LEARNED, MURIEL LIEFFERS, and DOROTHY PRESSPRICH perform an exgeriment. IN PHYSICS, a junior science course, students are offered the back- ground for the construction and use of mechanical equipment. LANGUAGES Combine For Broader Understanding LATIN STUDENTS, kesides their regular assignments of translation, vocabulary, and discussing tales from Roman mythology, have projects dealing with Roman orators, myths, or anything having to do with Rome. Looking over f¢rojects turned in by Miss Gertrude Turner’s students are JOSEPH FLORA, NANCY SCHOTT, and SHIRLEY MARBLE. FRENCH CLASSES, receive French newspapers each month. Projects showing a knowledge of the people and customs of France interest French students JOAN STOBBART, JANET TOFT, KATHRYN TUNIS, SANDRA MEYERS, and JACK ALEXANDER. 30 THE GERMAN LANGUAGE proves difficult to master, but when learned, it becomes useful and practical as most foreign languages do. Seeking help in their studies from MRS. COILA BULLARD are ELLEN FOULDS and SUNIOR WASHER. SPANISH STUDENTS create variety and interest in their class by making special notebooks about the different manners and customs of the Spanish-speaking people.
