ART OF LIVING Assists Social Adjustment BOYS’ GYMNASIUM classes are required of all sophomores and juniors. Engaged in daily exercises, which are a part of the physical education program are: EUGENE MARTIN and BILL MASON in the foreground of MR. GLENN MASON’‘S sophomore class. SOPHOMORE ART OF LIVING students, MARY LOU SCHIESSWOHL, VALERIE RUBY, JUNE McMATH, JOANN ELLIOTT, and JOAN HABECK, look through wedding projects made by the junior girls as one of the projects of the year. SOPHOMORE and JUNIOR GIRLS alternate gymnasium and art of living classes. Here SANDRA VANDERSTEIN, PAULINE CATRAIN, BARBARA ARMSTRONG, and DEE GALONSKA take part in rope skipping exercises. ART OF LIVING CLASSES help solve the problems of students, aid in developing their personalities, and offer an opportunity to study materials on their vocational interests. Here TOM DEZELSKY, MR. i “oer or eee SOCIAL SCIENCE Points To Citizenship AMERICAN GOVERNMENT is required of all seniors for graduation. American Government and Economics give seniors a background in the organization and working of American democracy. Here DOROTHY PRESSPRICH explains a passage in the text book, The History of American Government, to JAMES VACIK, LUCINDA REIMER, JAMES FOBEAR, JANE WEBER, and ROBERT BUSH. STUDENT GOVERNMENT DAY is made possible through the coopera- tion of the Saginaw city government and the local post of the American Legion. The project is the final step in the unit on civic government. Seniors are elected to civic offices and rule the city for the day. These students made applications and were appointed by the Personnel Board to their offices. CHARLOTTE WOLFE served as Health Officer; DON 26 WORLD HISTORY added to the required history gives the student a social science major. Students study civilization from the beginning of ancient history up to our modern history and trace its influence on news of the day. Among those reading the ‘Weekly News Review” are DARLENE CLARK, SUE ROGERS, and NILA HARMONY. SCIENCE, MATH Prepare Hills IN BIOLOGY, the sophomore science course, lectures, class discussion, and audio-visual aids are helpful in understanding the workings of plants and animals. Here, dissecting and drawing their grasshopper are KAY BATTEN and RONALD DUBAY. GEOGRAPHY, as a science, offers a knowledge of the terrain and people around the world which helps students understand world problems. Here DICK BARTEL, DALE SWANTON, BEVERLY COX, and PAT BOYLE find a place on the map that is especially important in the news. 28 IN CHEMISTRY, the senior science course, through lectures, taking notes on the discussion, and writing papers on special projects, the students find the chemistry of everyday life. DAVE LEARNED, MURIEL LIEFFERS, and DOROTHY PRESSPRICH perform an exgeriment. IN PHYSICS, a junior science course, students are offered the back- ground for the construction and use of mechanical equipment.
