Recognize Achievement AGRICULTURE AWARD LOVELL KAIN, for outstanding work in agriculture, was the 1951 winner of the Dekalb Award. ART AWARDS MARGARET CARTIER won a gold key in the regional Scholastic Art Contest for her entry in the general art division. PATSY FISCHER was awarded a gold key in costume designing. JOAN FORBES, the first sophomore ever to earn a gold key, took hers in general art. HARRY GRAHAM won two gold keys in the water color division. FIRST-PRIZE WINNERS in the Annual Woman’s Club Art Contest were NANCY McCAULEY’S “Duck” in the ceramic division; RUTH CASE’S “Donkey”’ in the plastic sculpturing; JACQUELINE EMMITT in metal work; and PATRICIA PATTERSON in textile painting. SECOND-PRIZE WINNERS were RICHARD SHULER in plastic sculpturing, and HILDRED SCHAEFF in basket weaving. ELAINE WINTERSTEIN won third place in basket weaving. MUSIC AWARDS FIRST PLACE RATINGS in the District Contest were awarded to WIL- LIAM BIRDSALL and RUTH GLASS, clarinetists; violinist ROBERT KNOWLES, and EDITH SPARKS, clarinetist. SPEECH Activities Include Assemblies, Pep Meetings PEP ASSEMBLIES, held to boost the athletic teams on to victory, are a part of the varied recreational program at Arthur Hill. Here DAVID KRUSKE and MARLIN NUECHTERLEIN, bearers of signs showing the school spirit, are preceded across the gym floor by a musical trio consisting of ALLEN SPOUSTA, WILLARD TESSIN, and GLENN BELLINGER. ASSEMBLIES put on by professional performers are held at regulor intervals during the school year to which the public is also invited. After one of these programs PATRICIA BOYLE, reporter for the Arthur Hill News, interviews MRS. JAMES DUTTEN, MR. JAMES DUTTEN, and MISS DIANNE ANDREWS, the marimbist trio. Arthur Hill 3 1390 00951 1260 DEBATE TEAM members board the bus for a valley debate meet. After a season of three valley meets Arthur Hill debaters found themselves in third place with 15 wins and 21 losses. Members are CAROLE PARKER, SALLY BAILEY, NANCY BAILEY, JOAN RANDALL, TOM WHITNEY, PAT HUMPAL, DELORES ARRIAGA, JOAN VIGEANT, JAMES KEARFUL, DALE PRETZER, and JOHN CLARK. AN EXHIBIT OF PRESERVED-ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS, part of the Freedom Train, was displayed on the auditorium stage. Students and teachers viewed the display at prescriked periods.
