While history stresses what students can learn from the past, economics shows them how to deal with the present. All the academic areas stressed the "now" as well as the "then" of science, English, foreign language, and math. Business, home economics, health and physical education music, art, special education, ROTC, and all the areas of the Career Center evaluated both students and curriculum to "fine tune" Tech education. With the addition of students and faculty from Attucks and Marshall, Tech reflected many changes. Among them was the lure of the Magnet programs in science, math, health professions, and foreign language. Students could find a program that fitted their needs with guidance from counselors in the Arsenal. Parsons I1 9541 Faculty and staff friends Staff Colophon Volume 73 of the ARSENAL CANNON conveys the theme, Tradition of Excellence throughout its 176 pages. Five hundred copies of the book were produced by Newsfoto Publishing Company using 80 lb. Enamel paper and offset lithography. All body copy is in 10 pt. Optima type. Cations, panels, and the index are in 8 pt. Optima. Newsfoto's Typevision and Indexvision software packages were used to typeset the copy. Input to these programs was via an IBM-PC with dual-sided , dual disk drives. Headlines in the opening and on division pages are varied. Brush was used in the underclass section. Root Photography of 1131 West Sheridan Road in Chicago, Illinois, photographed all faculty, most groups, seniors, and candids. Inter-State Studio of Sedalia, Missouri, did the underclass portraits. Sincere thanks go to all the professional photographers who helped produce the book. Special thanks goes to Dick Kennard, Newsfoto representative, who patiently directed the production of this book. The yearbook staff mourns the loss of former adviser Virginia jackson who along with Michael Cecil produced excellent yearbooks for Tech. The earbook was produced through journalism, newspaper, and yearbook classes. Miss janet Eberle advised the book. From 1912 to 1987, Arsenal Technical High School has met the needs of urban students. From those pioneer days in the Arsenal to the camius as it is today, Tec students have had the best IPS has to offer in courses and staff. The Arsenal and the campus trees memories lor all Tech grads. Often heard but seldom seen at its Seven-Story perch is the official Tech bell. Under major improvements was the new root' for the Arsenal which led to repairs for the rest of the building. Army records of the Arsenal were retrieved by Miss Esther Fay Shover in 1919. Miss Vinnorma Shaw of the art department designed the bookplate for the records from 1862 to 1902.
