TURNS T0 . Dunning Uap and Gown l'lv1':nY DIAY it,s the same way. Like a steam roller the grads-to-be make a mad dash toward Liberty Grove for their annual picnic, one of the many Class Day activities. i The 1 orty-ninersi' called it 'tUld Settler's Day. It included the Senior Torch presenta- tion, a stage show, and square dancing when the guys rolled up their jeans and the gals let down their hair. Earlier in the year was Senior Convocation. Senior Sacrifice Day found many hungry Color-YVearers. Supreme Day came and went. Then, a respectful silence told that the upperclassmen were at Yespers. It seemed strange that these quiet, dignified young people were the same gay picknickers of the week he- fore. Finally, Commencement and Prom came, and then their days at Tech were over. Typical of the hundreds of happy seniors is Ann Garrison, beaming as she greets her family with her hands filled with gifts from friends. Seniors really enjoyed promenading and sunning themselves at their annual picnic in Liberty Grove, Class Day, last May 18. Robert Nuhre. carrying the banner of the 1949 seniors, smiles as he leads them in on that big day for Commencement exercises. Senior sponsors. Mr. Peterson, and Mr. Anderson wend their may across the football field before the exercises begin. -14-

Glas llay Fun and Play Day Hump Eviznr CLASS has its day, planned by a committee and carried out by its members. Signs decorate the campus weeks ahead, telling the news of the big day to come. This is a lively celebration when class members meet together to get acquainted and to have a good time. Fun,, is the slogan and Do it togetheri, is the motto! Freshmen had a mixer earlier in the year when they danced to the music of the band and even tried their skill at directing. Then came the Follies,, when the beginners exhibited their talents. Sophomores jumped right in with an afternoon dance in the Boys, Gymnasium, reigned over by a king and queen. Junior Day celebration, including a dance and a picnic at the ovens, was highlighted by the election of a torch bearer who later accepted the senior torch from the outgoing grad- uate bearer. Seniors skipped through an old-fashioned round of square dancing in the girls, gymnasium with a picnic in the Grove as part of their Class Day celebration. Girls' Play Day came when girls participated in a sched- uled day of activity. Twelvc-membered relay teams competed on the track as well as did 50- and T5-yard dash competito1's. High jumpers tried to go over that always 1'ising stick with- out dragging that extra foot behind to pull it down. In the girls' gym other competition was going on in the form of ping pong and badminton. Blue and red ribbons were the awards for the lucky winners. Activity points were gathered to count toward recognition o11 Honor day. Then came the final senior aitairs, brimful of thrills and excitement: with Vespers, Connnencement, and the Senior Prom completing the bustle of activity highlighting the spring days of WL9. -16-
