Standing: Coach Fernando Ledesma, Max Schowengerdt, Fred Van Schoelandt, John Miller, manager Richard Chaifetz, CROSS-CQU TRY Arroyo's new coach, Fernando Ledesma, opened the 1959-60 year in a winning way. The Varsity squad, led by John Miller, went undefeated in capturing their first Sierra League Championship, and also took many honors at Invitational Meets. This line team loses only three men, Ron Sullivan, Captain and most valuable mang top man John Millerg and Ron Cunning, a top, consistent runner. Returning lettermen are Max Schowengerdt, Ernie Roybal, Ron Rand, Fred Van Schoelandt, and Fred Lomelli. The j.V.'s also had a winning season with a 4-3 record. The win over San Gabriel proved to be the jayvees' finest effort with Ron Rand pushing teammate Art Parker to a new course record. Melvin Milton served as Captain, and Art Parker was most valuable man. VARSITY TR OK Under the able guidance of Head Coach Frank Clayton, his assistants, Coach Ledesma and Coach Taylor, the 1960 Varsity Team swept through the league undefeated in capturing its first Sierra League Championship. The Arroyo Invitational was bigger and better this year and looks as if it will become one of the largest in Southern California. This year for the first time our school was represented in many large Invitational Meets with Ron Cunning, john Miller, Ron Sullivan, Ernie Roybal, and Art Parker receiving awards. The 1960 co-captains were Jim DeGroflf and John Miller.
