Cynthia Smith, the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie J. Smith, was crowned at the first annual Miss Arnett Pageant, held on September 18, 1982. The competition consisted of a salad supper, a talent presentation, and an evening gown competition. Following the pageant, Mr. Barty Dearing, the 17-year- old son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Dearing, was named Mr. AHS. Runner-up for Miss Arnett was Tammy Boyd, the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cieatis Boyd. Tammy represented Arnett in the Miss Aggie Princess Pageant in Goodwell. Cynthia is a guard on the basketball team, FFA Sweetheart, 1981-82 and 1982-83, Senior Class Vice- President, and Beta Club Vice-President. Cynthia also represented Arnett at the Miss Cinderella Pageant in Alva. Below: Barty Dearing and Cynthia Smith

Boys’ Girls’ State During Boys' and Girls’ State, David, Barty, and Cynthia had a chance to meet many new people from across the state. While there, they had a chance to learn how the government is set up and run. They took part in electing officials and participating in legislative action. D.A.R. On February 21, 1983, the Woodward Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recognized Cynthia, for representing the school and community with outstanding traits including dependability, truthfulness, loyalty and patriotism. She was recommended by three community leaders, the school superintendent, principal and teachers.
