THE NINETEEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX CADET TO THE CLASSES OF 1936: If it were not for the fact that we know you are merely being graduated from the cadet corps of the San Diego Army and Navy Academy into that loyal corps of old boys scattered throughout the world, we would be very sad to know you are leaving. We have tried to make the school as home-like as possible. Hold your home first, but we trust you will give a little love and affection to your second home-the house- hold of which will be rejoicing with you or sympathizing, as the case may be. JOHN L. D.-xvis, ja.. Major C, N, G. C ammandmzl of Cadelr TO THE CLASSES OF 1936: Into a world still disturbed with a thou- sand problems, social, political, economic and religious, into conditions still as difficult as they are interesting, I send you forth with an earnest prayer. The future is yours. May you have the grace, courage and wisdom to meet its problems, and to help towards the realization of what God meant this beautiful world to THOMAS A. DAVIS,, President I3

CQLQNEI. THQMAS A. DAVIS 4 EDICATING one's life to the understanding of a young lads heart is no easy task. but this is child's play as compared to guiding the destiny of a surging group of adolescent, military-minded young men. It might well be said that the state and the institution are exceedingly fortunate in having a man like Colonel Davis, gentle and tolerant, yet fearless and original in thought, to organize and develop an educational foundation as symbolized by this Army and Navy Academy. Under his unfailing guidance and continual search for new ideas, the Academy has become the foremost of its type on the Coast. The ability to become a personal adviser on the most trivial provo- cation, has endeared him to all with whom he has come in contact.

TH :ay .i. , E NINETEEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX CADET I gw . . ,, W, ADMINISTRATIVE SAMUEL W. PETERSON More than two decades of outstanding service have been the priceless contribution of Vice-President Peterson to the Acad- emy. In that span of time he has imparted more than a small amount of his knowl- edge and spirit to the advancement of the school. His fine chapel talks and the earnest- ness and directness shown before his classes convince all that he is more than worthy of -the name teacher, His fellow faculty members openly and gladly show their admiration and heart-felt regard for him, and every student in each of his classes has warm and friendly respect for his fine character. No more need be said than that he is a true friend to all. DEAN CHARLES BMN Charles Bain, Dean of the junior College, has been at the Academy now for twelve years. During that time he has served faithfully and well. No one could ask for more loyal service. The Department with which he has been associated, Chemistry and Physics, is un- doubtedly the finest within a large radius of the school. An exceptional knowledge of his sub- jects, coupled with an understanding of students, makes all those who come in contact with him the happier for their meeting, although he has no love for those who waste their time and will not work. His ability to get things done on schedule has indeed set a high standard for those who would keep pace with him. X I4 X. f.
