Text from Pages 1 - 92 of the 1958 volume:

THE SENIOR CLASS OF I958 ARMSTRON IOWA PRESENTS THE TIGER ARMSTRONG COMMUNITY SCHOOL - G, CARROLL BOGARD PRINCIPAL MESSAGE TO THE SENIORS Curiosity is one of the most permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous intellect. In living in this scientific age it is most essential that all people keep alive their curiosity. The people of the world need to be alertg to take advantage of all worthwhile opportunities for advancementg to work con- tinuously to better themselves mentally, physically, morally, and spirituallyg and to become broader in scope than their immediate environment demands. The intellectually alert will be the leaders in all human endeavor. They will be the best adjusted and the most successful people in our local communities, as well as world wide. Intellect will be the resource that all America will need to maintain its position in world affairs. Knowledge, with wisdom, is your most valuable asset. Knowledge comes by taking things apart, analysis. But wisdom comes by putting things together. It is my sincere desire that the members of the senior class of 19.58 have the knowledge and wisdom to take full advantage of the many opportunities that the future may have for them. Paced by a fairly balanced scoring in the front court, although at times inconsistent, and an aggressive guard court, the girls proved that desire and hustle are important qualities for a successful season. The highlight of the season was the defeat of Ringsted twice, after many seasons of being defeated by them, and the recipient of runner- up trophy in the sectional tournament. The scoring was headed by Betty Ann McCorkle, a junior, with a 21 point average, followed by Barbara Looft, a senior, with a 15 point average, and Sue Anderson, a junior, with an ll point average. The defense consisted of Dolores Richmond, a senior, and juniors, Marlys Willson, Beverly McElwee, and Joan Irmiter. However, the whole squad contributed a great deal to the improvement of the team and as many are underclassmen, the girls are looking forward to a better season next year. 40 is. The team averaging 5'9", was sparked by tight defensive play and fairly well balanced scoring.
