MR. ARMSTRONG

ln these days of big business and industry and complex organizations, educa-
tion specifically tailored for top vocational objectives becomes a vital essential
for every man and Woman who would exercise the leadership of a key or chief
executive position tomorrow. One does not have to turn back the pages very many
years to find that the field of applied economies was almost wholly undeveloped.
Because of the tremendous pressure for more sound financing, more efficient pro-
duction, more adequate distribution, and more enlightened direction of all the
factors in the modern enterprise, the field of knowledge having to do with busi-
ness and industry became the fastest growing phase of all the fields of knowledge.
Business education had to keep pace. The colleges and universities had to
expand their training so that the increasing demand for trained personnel might
be met. Today the great corporate enterprises are literally combing the campuses
of our institutions of higher learning for the cream of the crop-young men and
young wolnen with strong personalities, good work habits and attitudes, and. excel-
lent scholarship records symbolizing the development of those logical powers of
the mind essential in analyzing weighty problems and making sound decisions
which may affect the well-being of the whole nation.
It is not enough to take a given subject. lt is vital that the leader of the future
build the strengths while in training which will groom him for high responsibility
tomorrow. To build these strengths it is essential that the student do his best. That
best today must be better than yesterday, and the best for the tomorrows must
symbolize the growing stature of man. Perfection may not have been achieved,
but the challenge of doing one's best will have been met.
