Emory Fifth Row— Schroedl, Blacken, P. Bergam. During the year the High School band, under the direction of Mr. Paul Fosso, has been an extremely active and loyal group. It annually plays for the Memorial Day and Fourth of July Parades, and at Christmas time played for the Santa Claus parade. Local football and bas- ketball games were stimulated by the stirring music. Tha group is taking part in three concerts this year, is planning a trip to Granite Falls for a concert, will take part in the Competition Festival in Puyallup and the annual County Music Festival held in Everett. There are 52 members. Instrumentation is nearly complete in all sec- tions of the band producing a much improved tone quality. 30

The Girls’ League has a right to be really proud of itself this year. Representa- tives attended the conferences held in Stan- wood and Bellingham. The annual mixer, which was held February 25, was a suc- cessful affair. The Juniors won first place and the Seniors placed second. They gave a successful dance after the Mt. Vernon bas- ketball game. They had a joint musical pro- gram with the Boys' Club and have had various speakers at the meetings. The faculty advisor again this year was Mrs. Hawley. The officers were: PRESIDENT—LORRAINE BERGAM VICE-PRESIDENT—JUNE FINGARSON SECRETARY—ROSE MARY BRODERSON TREASURER—COLLEEN LEDBETTER The class reDresentatives were: SENIOR—PHYLLIS BACKSTROM JUNIOR—GLORIA JOERGENSON SOPHOMORE—ALDENE ROBINSON FRESHMAN—PATRICIA HILLIS GIRLS’ LEAGUE Seated: Beigam. Fingarson. Broderson, Ledbetter. Mrs. Hawley. Standing: Robinson. loergenson. Backstrom. Hillis. BOYS’CLUB Hiett. Lee. Haack. Blair. The Boys’ Club was much more active this year than years before. Mr. Danubio was the advisor. During the meetings they have had some outstanding speak- ers and a few smokers. They plan to have a public Spring Smoker and with the pro- ceeds will buy a boxing ring. A CAPELLA CHOIR The choir, under the direction of Mr. Fosso, consists of 116 members. This group is divided into three mixed choirs which meet first, second, and fifth period each day. The objective of the group has been the appreciation of good choral music and to develop skills in the art of singing. The project has been to put on three concerts: the Christmas concert and two Spring concerts. The group will sing in the Competition Festival and members will sing in the Spring Music Festival held in Everett. Practices have been held twice weekly during activity period. They plan to sing three local concerts during the year, to sing at the Competition Festival, and to take part in the Spring Music Festival held in Everett. 31
