PALE slX Slrllclgircurrrsh Ircirl Hzstor y of A1 lmgtorz Hzqh School lhe Arlington High School District wa organized August 8 l903 In the consolidation of Districts I6 D0 and 88 There were at that trrrre two school houses the l rrrcoln and the Lrarfrcld rn the district Ihe f'rll of V908 rnarlced the crectron of the mam body of the present l-lrgh bchool burldrnff Wrtlr the erection of this building there was a total seating capacity of 730 pupils re c roo rn the fall of V308 off rccl ty o our c thc l atrn and bcrrrr trfrc with special courses rn Lommercral Arithmetic and Bookkeeping Ir was felt at that time that these two courses would prepare students for entrance mto any of the higher mstrtutron of the state rrs school wa then and 1 yet a member of the Atlrletrc Association of Accredited High Schools of Vt estern Vt ashmgton Ar that time baseball and tennis seemed to play the leading p'rrt rn the athletic actryrtres of the clroo ln IQO7 the school nrre pa sed through the sea on undef ated Tennis as under the manavement of the A H b Te nrs Qlub w hrah boasted about thirty member At the end of each season the club held a tournament to decide the charnpron hip of the chool ootball team was orvanrzed each a on ut its provre s was Greatly retarded becau e of laclc of game necessary for the teaching of manual tramrnf and domestic science ln the fall of l9l 3 the new wooden structure was completed At present manual trammg an domestic crerce re t ucht rn this building 'lhe cafeteria for the stu dents rs rn rooms adyomrng the Domestic bcrence department nd orchestra and Qrlee Llub pr crctrces are also held herc re following year cry the fvrowth of the tudent body mto propor trons beyond the capacity of rlr school burldrnv In the meantime the VC orld W ar w rs raving m Lurop and then rn Aorrl of l9I 7 we entered the conflict X olunteers and National buards immediate ly went into mtensrye training, lhrou1.,lrout the country hrvh schools were represented rn the training camps and our school was no exception Among those from tlrrs school were Robert ohnstone Ru sell Emerson Paul Vlarsh Clayton Vlfrnnre and others VC hrle these boys were training and fighting our school was busy with drryes Red Cross worlc etc Vi hen the w ar ended some of the boys who left came back to school From l9l8 on th school grew o rapidly that by the year l920 and 1971 the building was paclccd to eycry corner eyen a long table and seats were put on the stave rn the audrtorrum to accommodate students But when school started rn l977 an addition had b en bu lr on to the first building This addition rs now used a audrtorrum and gy mnasrum Not withstanding a seatrnv capacity of 777 this year 1923 has found e ery seat fr ed At the beginning of tlrrs school year the Farm bhop lrurldrng was erected This structure was burlt by farm shop students under the superyrsron of Nlr Boyer llre Farm Shop cour e coyers a worlcmg knowledge of all farm repair worlc and rs yaluable since Arlington rs situated rn a farming region During this time the athletic plra e of our school had been steadily pro . . . . 1 fl 'Q f Q 5 I I ,. 1,1 ,Y Q1 'S 11 . 1: 1 1' 5 A A Ag 5 , ' .
