The other day as I was walkrng along a creek near by searchrng for a
good spot to do some frshrng I suddenly stumbled and before I knew what
happened my head had struck a rock and knocked me out Whrle uncon
scrous the followrng thoughts whrrled through my head concernrng my class
I thought that I was walkrng down a street rn one of the large crtres of
the world rn about l968 As I pa sed along the street I notrced an advertrse
ment of a concert by Ioan Crosser the frrst pranrst ever to frnd the lost Chord
Next aoor to the poster was Maxs Cafeterra owned by Max Rodabaugh
Lookrng rn the wrndow the frrst person whom I saw was Dale Romrck who
told m he was runnrng a Plymouth Erxrt Shop on Seventh St rrght next
to Edon Buslrnger s Men s Shop where Eddre Gossman works as a dummy
for modelrng mens clothes Ieanette Davrs was tellrng about her campargn
for State Representatrve of Ohro on the Democratrc trcket to Kerth Brbler a
promrnent bathrng surt desrgner who was gettrng some rdeas from her A
woman rn a flashy dress went by the table and I asked who rt was Dale
rnformed me that rt was Shrrley Davrs who had rust made a comeback rn the
movres after twelve years of berng down wrth the croup Irmmre Essrnger
stopped long enough at the table to tell us he was an arrplane desrgner at
Shortlrfe Arrlrnes After talkrng oxer old tunes I left and as I went through
the door I bumped rrght rnto Edward Rankey who talked to me a mrnute and
then went on I-Ie had grven me hrs card whrch I read and found that he
was a mattress tester and that really amused me
Out on the street agarn as I passed Gene I-less mobrle frurt stand I heard
a newsboy shoutrng about a woman parachute Jumper who landed rn a tree
and hung there for 36 hours I bought a paper and was surprrsed to frnd the
unlucky grrl was Mary Ellen Essrnger Stopprng at a park bench I looked
over he front page more carefully frndrng that Iames Barrd had successfully
patented a new type horn for all types of tractors Turnrng the page I no
trced Dee Rankey s name rn small prrnt tellrng that he had not had an accr
dent rn I8 years The paper congratulated hrm on hrs slow and careful drrv
rng Glancrng further down the page I saw a prcture of Walter G Beach Ir
and lookrng under the prcture I read that he was berng crrtrcrzed by the brg
shots for hrs book I-low to Work Algebra rn Ten Easy Lessons Gorng on
to the SOCIGIY page there was an artrcle mentronrng that Carol Lehr the best
dressed woman of the year and Ruby Benner the noted publrc speaker on
Why Men Are Inferror to Women rn the Factory World were rn town On
page frve were the radro programs and rt showed that Rrchard Krmmel was
the qurzmaster on hrs radro show You Cant Wrn followrng the radro play
Dont Get Marrred Young or The Last Trme I Saw I-Ioudeshell wrrtten and
produced by Betty Lou Krmmel The next page was sports events and I saw
several names I knew Ioe Byal the Trddely Wrnks Champron was defend
rng hrs trtle for the tenth trme tonrght In large type rt announced that Colene
Traucht won the long drstance swrmmrng cup after hrttrng a small battleshrp
and nearly drownrng
Gettrng up from the bench I glanced down the street and saw a brg
lrmousrne comrng toward me and on the srde was a large srgn sayrng Charles
Kroske most avarlable bachelor of the year I could tell Charles wasnt hav
rng any trouble rn the world lust then 1 felt a hand on my shoulder and
turned around to see Iohn Van Atta the manager of an Old Folks Home
Iohn wolked wrth me for a short drstance and then left me rn front of Evelyn
Waltermrre s Short Cut Beauty Salon whrch I entered I saw a rrch lookrng
fellow srttrng by the wrndow who was none other than Raymond Rergle I-Ie
had marrred a rrch woman and was wartrng on her to g t through wrth her
harr do lust as I was stepprng out of the door of the beauty shop a car
came zrg zaggrng down the street and plowed rrght rnto the shop wrndow on
the other srde of the street There was a terrrble crash and rt seemed lrke
the earth shook and Jumped I slowly came to my rrght mrnd and drscovered
I was srttrng there on the bank of the creek I never drd frnd out who was
drrvrng the car rn my dream but I ll bet my bottorrr dollar that rt was I-Iearold
