Senior Vs. Foculty B-boll Mokes For Confusing Fun Fridoy, November 13, turned out to be on unlucky night for the members of the foculty. The seemingly unconqueroble foculty teom wos defeoted by the seniors in the Seniors vs. Foculty bosketboll gome. The gome wos close oll the woy with the seniors leoding in every quorter but the Qnd. With the seniors leoding ofter the fourth quortet, the foculty osked for on extro fifth quorter to see if they could win, but no such luck. The seniors beot them with o score of 20-25. lt wos very exciting to win becouse the foculty hosn't been beot in 20 yeors, remorked senior Albert Redd. The gome is o good chonce for those seniors who hod never hod o chonce to be o cheer- leoder or bosketboll ployer. The senior girls cheered for the senior teom ond o few foculty members cheered for the foculty teom. I om glod I got. o chonce to cheer. It wos o lot of fun, but I don't think I'd wont to do it oll the time, Above. Never give up . . . Senior Kevin Rushing fights ro breok in and grob the boll to prevent the foculty from scoring. Left. There ore orguments os to whether the seniors won ot oll. lt is now left to the innocent bystonders to decide. The Goldenoires performed their contest rou- tine ot holftime. an it Cn The Boats And Planes They're Coming To America Walk together, talk together all ye people of the earth, then and only then shall ye have peace, ls, in a way, the motto of AFS CAmeri- can Field Servicei. Each year a few students from far places come here to attend school. These students are part of the exchange pro- grams AFS and YFU CYouth for Understandingl. They learn all the American customs such as: baseball, hot dogs, and apple pie by living with American students. Zahari Arsenkov and Elba Meixueiro are the exchange students this year. Zahari is participat- ing in the AFS program and lives with Jim, Beth, and Tony Dunn. Zahari is from Yugoslavia. Elba, from Mexico, also with AFS, lives with Lisa Car- penter. Elba has been trying to come to America for four years. She finally made lt. Having an exchange student is the greatest experience, epxlained Lisa. There was a third exchange student who transferred to another school before second semester. His name is Ricardo Santana. He participated in YFU and lived in Brazil. Left. Let's get serious . . . Elba Meixueiro is in deep contemplation as she studies the ways of America in her U.S. History class. Books, lunches, and school activities are all paid for by the organizations. Some parents and teachers are involved in the AFS committee which helps raise money for the organizations. They often work the concession stands for foot- ball games. The students attend school as sen- iors and are honorary members of the Student Council. The students stay in America for a year. Before they go back to their home lands, they generally take trips with the organizations to such places as New York City. l will be so sad to see him go, remarked Beth Dunn, referring to Zahari. After awhile, they seem just like a brother or sister. You learn all about their traditions and customs. Besides just being fun and interesting, having an exchange stu- dent as a house guest is a real learning exper- ience, she concluded. Foreign Exchange Students!27
