TEXARKANA ARKANSAS
The Student Body
Senior High School
Texarkana, Arkansas
This letter has been a matter of grave concern to me
What can I possibly say that would have real meaning and
significance to you as you look to the future? In the
shadows cast by Sputnik I and Sputnik II, with the whole
world in confusion and turmoil, what might offer a ray of
hope, what miffht point to a brighter future than is readily
apparent?
General Omar Bradley, in an address to the American
Legion said, 'With the monstrous weapons man already has,
humanity is in danger of being trapped in this world by its
moral adolescence Our knowledge of science has clearly
outstripped our capacity to control it We have many men of
science, too few men of God We have grasped the mystery of
the atom and regected the Sermon on the Mount Man is
stumbling blindly through a spiritual darkness while toying
with the precarious secrets of life and death. The world
has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without
conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical
infants. We know more about war than we know about peaceg
more about killing than we know about living. This is our
Twentieth Century's claim to distinction and progressn.
This is an awful indictment of my generation. What a
sad legacy we offer to you. In all this darkness, is there
not some ray of light? Our very survival as a nation of
free men seems to demand an acceleration of our scientific
activities. But along with that we must bring into our lives
that element which will direct our achievements in science
toward building a better world. The future is by no means
hopeless. Upon the shambles of the present age, you and your
generation can lay the foundations for a better and brighter
tomorrow. Jesus said, "A new commandment I give unto you,
That ye love one another". How well that commandmaxt is
followed will determine the legacy which your generation will
pass on to those who follow you. That you may meet the
challenge more bravely and more successfully than did those
who have gone before is my earnest prayer.
Sincerely, fy
Dear Students :

Class Proph cy
We dipped into the future to see what was to be,
To learn of the lives and fate of the class of '58
NANCY ABLES is doing all right
As a nurse she dresses in white
She is quick to understand
And always lends a helping hand,
We went to the city to see all the sights
There's ROBERT ADANIS' name in lights
But everyone knew that he d be a drummer
Cause he practiced all the time even in summer'
I hear JUDY ADDINCTON has found her man
And IS living now in a moving van
Her husands a cross nation walker by trade
And she wants to be there when he gets paid
While in school YEWOUL ALLEN was wishing
That he could spend all his time hunting and fishing
Now he can do it and do it all day
But his sweet vnfe ays At home you must stay
LANELL ANDERSON has changed her name
And is living now on a lovely lane
She has picket ferce and rambling rose
And every week to New York she goes
RUTH ANN ANC-ELL found herself hurled
Among the leaders of the business world
So now she s really on the top
And going steady with a cop
NANCY ATKINSON has fulfilled her dreams
She has her own kindergarten so it seems
She married a handsome man named Gerald
And writes a column for the New York Herald
JAMES ATTAWAY IS a broker of bonds and stocks
Hes getting quite rich for he s sly as a fox
He has his own office and penthouse too
Id like to be in his shoes wouldnt you'
NIERLENE ATTAWAY is known far and wide
For all the celebrities hair she s dyed
She re dyes their hair for every show
And surprisingly enough her price IS low
Because he tudied in Agri class
DAVID ALSTIN S dream has come to pass
He has his own ranch now and loves to ride
Across all his land reaching far and wide
BENWY 'U ERY has a garage full of cars
He made his fortune in candy bars
Since his fattv ry 1 one of the best
He has detlded to take time for a re t
l
They ay his ouffle ls really a wow'
He works at the Waldorf as head of all cooks
Becau e his food tastes as good as it look
'NIYRA BARNES IS a fashion designer
Alon thls line no one is finer
Her dre ses have 1 dl tmcttve styling
'lhey re always bewltchln and beguiling
RAY GENE BARNES ha learned to sing
Some even think hc ound like Bing
He pa ed Elvl on the chart
Becau e he has won more ladies hearts
RON XLD BXRRIS has won renown
With his talent to get a lst down
He a star as we knew he would be
Watch hun Saturdays on T V
SARAH BEAN ERT is the Nlanager of a big company
Who specializes in sellm technicolor TV
It didnt take long this bu mess to learn
Cause she started Il ht out takin her turn
JAMES BENCH spends much time at his drawing board
Hes an efficiency designer for Ford
He has a use for every nook
And designed the car with the backward look.
A lifelong desire of ZOLLENE BENNETT
Was to be proficient at playing the spinet,
Her recitals are now enjoyed by all
You see she ives them in Camegie Hall
JOHN BIELOH S voice has made him known
Because it has that golden tone
Now he has time for fun and play
And gets a haircut every day
Perhaps if you look into the sky
Youll see WILLIAM BLACKBURN flying high
He especially likes to fly his yet
And may someday be a general yet
Because GLENDLE BLEDSOE enjoys cars
He found racing rn his stars
He won the Indianapolis 500 race
Because no one could match his pace
ED BLEIER IS as busy as he can be
Because he now has a family
Hes living by the golden rule
And has ten kids in the public school
Anyone who will take a look
Will see DOROTHY BRANTLEYS quite a coo
The reason says this modest lass
ls that she studied in Home Ec class
ALFA BRASUELI IS a scientist having finished at Yale
Success was assured we knew hed not fall
He has a lab at home and three lively boys
Tell me Barbara What was that noise?
BONITA BRASULLL now owns an oil well
She married a descendant of Alexander G Bell
She has a plantation full of boys
And 15 kept quite busy picking up their toys
Athletics has claimed our own BRUCE BROOKS
He loves the out doors more than his books
At the last Olympics he made us all smile
By breakm world records for the three minute mie
,IANICE BROWN who 15 now a beauticlan
Is said to have married a brllllant mortlclan
They have a ball working every day
Her fixing their hair and him stashmg them away
Some swim the channel to win their fame
But the greatest swimmer PAT BURNS by name
When ever in his head he gets the notion
At Hexleah race track with its stable and barns
The most famous Jockey IS speedy CARL CARNES
His average winning are a thousand a day
And everyone knrws 'lhat aint HAY
ROY LHXNIBFRS a proml mg lad
Seems to be taking after his Dad
He wa the fir t to reach the moon
And is now a retired oil tycoon
HOUCH COLLINS in darke t Africa you ll see
Watching bun moke on TV
On the ide he edit 'll AD
Yes he is quite a bu y lad
Arthur Godfrey has relinquished his spot
To a guy who favors him a lot
