The first public high school in Texarkana was built in the year i896 when a
ninth grade course of study was established and a building erected to house
this grade.
The first class graduated from the high school was the class of 1899.
The course of study was orthography, penmanship, arithmetic, grammar,
geography, United States History, rhetoric, physiology, civil government, algebra,
English and American Literature, English, history, physics, general history, plane
geometry, elementary Latin, Zoology, botany, plane trigonometry, descriptive
astronomy, German, history of education and pedagogy. Calisthenics and elo-
cution were taught by subscription.
The second and present high school building which we have attended, con-
sisting of twenty rooms, was built in l9ll and first occupied for school work dur-
ing the school year of l9l2-13. The graduating exercises of the class of l9ll were
held in the new building, since the auditorium was completed before the close of
the 191 1-I2 school year. The corner stone of the building was laid by the Masonic
Lodge, in the presence of the school board and a large assemblage of citizens.
The board was composed of the following: F. W. Mullins, VV. G. Cook, Allen
Winham, A. B. Little, john N. Cook, and D. Sanderson. Plans for the building
were drawn by Witt, Siebert and Company and material furnished by the Texas
Construction Company.

TEXARKANA. ARKANSAS
The Student Body
Senior High School
Texarkana, Arkansas
Dear Students 2
The greatest responsibility of adult society is to provide
an enviroment in which youth may grow into desirable citizen-
ship. In a Democracy, the discharge of this responsibility
gives to the public school a vital role. No other development
is so typically American as our public school system. Although
almost all adults will readily agree with the foregoing, all
too frequently the school is handicapped by lack of support
from the adult community. The education of all the children
of all the people is a costly undertaking. This no one will
deny. But the importance of the school's role in a Democratic
society demands that adequate funds be made available.
As students and teachers, we must always take the utmost
advantage of such educational facilities and opportunities as
the community makes available to us. As this is being written,
construction is starting on a new Senior High School Building.
This will make possible many desirable expansions of the high
school programg it will greatly enlarge the opportunities for
both students and teachers 3 but it will also place added
responsibilities upon each of us. This is, I think, a signif-
icant time in the life of our high school, and it is my sincere
prayer that all of us - students, teachers, and cocmnnmity -
may find a new enthusiasm, an enduring faith, and a compelling
vigor to make our beloved high school not just a good high
school but the finest high school in all the land.
Sincere ly,
W. M. Lo ke

Dear hiss Landes and hr, Dunn: N
Choices of preference are most difficult
where beauty is concerned.
Who can say which is more beautiful - a
sunrise, a sunset, dusk, or the full glory of midday. lt
is all a matter of opinion.
So, without further ado, l shall set forth
my selection:
As Pueen: hickie Goree

indent Council
Seeking to promote high standards throughout the student body, the Student
Council is a pillar of the school. Its members, chosen on the basis of character,
scholarship, leadership, and service, strive to secure gentlemanly conduct and
observance of school regulations. They render valuable services to the school
and community, assisting students, faculty, and civic organizations whenever
possible.
During the football season, the Council provided
ushers at all games, and headed the campaign for
good sportsmanship at these contests.
At Christmas it sponsored a "White Christmas"
drive to secure gifts for needy families in Texarkana.
In addition, two Council members served on the
to junior Red Cross during the year.
,A Cafeteria menus were posted daily in the halls
sg'

conducted regularly to aid students in retrieving lost

ll0GS EDGED BY SPRINGIIILL IN TIIBILLEB
Spotting a splendid team from Springhill, La., a 19 point halftime lead, the Razorbacks
drove back in a savage second half battle to pull ahead, only to see their- lead lost in the
last 2 minutes of the game. Slashing drives and savage tackles were the order of the evening.
Bobby Douglas and jack Harrison stood out for the Porkers on defense, while Jacob, Odom,
and Caver bore the brunt on offense.
PIIBKEBS NUDGE CAMDEN PANTIIEBS
Emerging victorious in their fourth encounter of the season, the Hogs had to overcome a six
point deficit in the second quarter to subdue Camden by a score identical to last year's, 14-6.
Camden whipped to a touchdown in only two and a half minutes. Driving back, the Hogs
counted two in the second period to end the scoring. Arnold, Northcutt, and Elkins were
tops on defense. Scorers were jacob and Odom, with Evers putting through 2 conversions.

PINE BLUFF GAINS 7-7 TIE
Driving to an early lead, and pushing the favored Zebras around with surprising facility,
a fired-up Texarkana aggregation led Pine Bluff for three quarters, before surrendering the
tying counter in the final period. The much-publicized Zebra running game, led by All-State
jim Higgason, was effectively stymied by a fierce Porker defense. Evers tallied the lone Tex-
arkana touchdown.
IIOGS SMASH WILDCATS AT IIOMElIOMINll
Thrilling a capacity' Homecoming crowd with his passing and running, Paul Caver led
the Porker attack as they ran roughshod over El Dorado, 48-6. Caver scored 2 touchdowns
and gained much yardage from his position in the spread employed by the Pigs. Other scorers
were Porier, Bann, Udom, XfVorks, and Robberts.
An inspired Porker defense led by Douglas, Elkins, Arnold, Northcutt, Odom, Harrison
and Lott fought the highly touted YVildcat ground attack almost to a standstill.
