SENATOR EDWARD MOORE KENNEDY was born in Boston,the youngest of nine children of former Ambassador and Mrs. joseph Kennedy. He attended Milton Academy, Harvard University iB.A. '56l, International Law School, The Hague, Holland, and the University of Virginia Law School QL. L. B., '59l. He is married to the former loan Bennett. They have three children. He served in the U. S. Army Infantry as a Private First Class, 1951- 1953. He was elected to the U. S. Senate in 1962, to fill the unexpired term of john F. Kennedy. He was reelected in 1964, 1970, and 1976. He is a member of the Human Resources Committee, the judiciary Committee, the joint Economic Committee, and the Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs. He served as Assistant Majority Leader of the Senate from 1968 to 1971. Among his major legislative accomplishments are the establishment of Neighborhood Health Centers, comprehensive reform of health manpower legislation, reform of immigration laws, and the creation of a Teacher Corps. He is recognized throughout the world for his work in behalf of refugees and the suffering peoples of Biafra, Bangladesh, India, and Vietnam.

THE KANEASTER HODGES, SR. LECTURE SERIES is being inaugurated this year after being established by Senator Kaneaster Hodges, lr. in memory of his father. The late Mr. Hodges, Sr. attended Arkansas College from 1928 to 1930. He was a prominent Newport attorney. Kaneaster Hodges, Jr. has served on the Board of Trustees of Arkansas College since 1976. He is a member of the Board's Education Committee and is Chairman of its Sub- committee on Deferred Giving.
