This year A.H.S. has seen some important changes. The most noticeable improvement for the better has been the attitude. General attitude about the school, its sports programs, its extracurricular activities, and the overall feeling has been more uplifting than in past years.
The year of 1986 brought forth a pride towards the school, which may be attributed to the sports program adopting an “Orange Crush” ® theme. Many cheers have employed the use of these rousing words, and it seems to have had a profound impact upon the way our athletes compete.
Our athletes play more determined, aggressive, and ready to win. While the Orioles may not win every game, they put forth their best effort — the effort of winners at heart — every time to live up to their “Orange Crush” ® nickname. This, in turn, spills over into the academic facet of A.H.S., and because of this, Argyle has good reason to be proud of its school system.
5Spirit Week
The football cheerleaders sponsored dress up days during Homecoming week to promote school spirit. This year, Monday was inside out and backwards day, Tuesday was hat and shades day, Wednesday was 50’s day, Thursday was opposite sex day, and Friday was the traditional orange and black day. The best or most original boy and girl and teacher were selected each day. Winners received prizes at the Friday night pep rally.
6Fun and Games
Homecoming! This word strikes a chord in both students and faculty alike each year when football season rolls around. Faculty and students plan and organize the events for Homecoming many weeks in advance, and the excitement just keeps building.
Pictured on this page you can see students and faculty enjoying themselves on the Friday afternoon before the big Homecoming game. One of the highlights for AHS students is an afternoon of fun and games at the park. Even the less spirited students get caught up in the festivities.
Once again, the student council organized the activities at the park. Games included the tug-of-war, the circle sit, 5-legged races, piggy back races, a pudding eating contest, the plank race, and a bike race. The senior class was the overall champion during competition throughout the week and totally dominated the games at the park.
Even though the seniors won the championship at the games, everybody, including the underclassmen, were good sports. Whether they won or lost, the students had a good time and looked forward to the pep rally, snake dance, and bonfire later on that night.
Homecoming week at Argyle proved once and for all that AHS has the most school spirit in the State Line League!

Excitement, spirit, balloons, music, horses, floats! Homecoming parade 1986 was all this and more.
Nursery rhymes was the theme chosen for this years class float competition. The Junior class float — BAKE 'EM — won first place honors. The Sophomores came in second and the Freshmen were third.

Students,
The completed yearbook you have in front of you began as a vision in mid-July. Since that time, the yearbook staff has sold many ads, taken thousands of pictures, and worked very long hours to put this book together for you.
Special thanks to our advisor, Mrs. Herbers, who devoted much of her free time and creative ideas to this year’s book. Thanks also to Photoland III for taking the group and organization pictures and developing pictures for us at the last minute.
I hope this yearbook helps you to remember the moments spent with friends in all aspects of school life this past year.

21The 1986 football squad was a hard working, very dedicated group of young men. The senior team members were a fine group of leaders.
Although we were not successful as far as having winning scores, I feel these men were and are the people who led the way to turning the program around. I respect each and every one of them a great deal. These young men are really winners in my eyes.

We’d like to extend congratulations to Diane Garrison who made the All-Conference second team.

Argyle’s football cheerleading squad was comprised of six Varsity cheerleaders and five Junior-Varsity cheerleaders. Along with a wide variety of cheers at games to encourage players and boost spirit among spectators, the cheerleaders performed pom routines for half-time entertainment and planned many excellent pep rallies.
The Fightin’ Oriole basketball cheerleading season saw the return of experienced girls on the Varsity Squad and many new faces on the Junior-Varsity Squad. The Varsity squad competed at a state-wide competition at the Mecca Center, Milwaukee, in December. Pep rallies, poster-making, and spirit boosting activities accompanied their cheering at games during the season.

The 1986-87 Varsity Basketball season went fast for me as a coach, but for the players it probably seemed very long, as the losses out numbered the victories by a wide margin.
As the coach, I saw great things happen that set examples for the underclassmen who will be members of the varsity basketball teams in future years to come. The four graduating team members, Dave, Tim, Jamie, and Curt, will be remembered for helping get the basketball program started in a better direction. The student body, faculty, parents, and other fans were super in support all season long. With all this in perspective, great things will come about in the boys’ basketball program here at AHS.

victoriesT.E.A.M. — Together Everyone Achieves More. Those four words summarize this season to a “T”. The 1986-87 Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team relied on team play for their great success. The girls played so well as a team that over all talent overshadowed stand out
performance.
The girls should be very proud of their accomplishments this season. They went against all odds to make the season what it was. Up until the last week of the season, the girls were in the chase for the conference championship.
Congratulations, ‘Fightin’ Lady Orioles’ on a very fine season.

Jr. High Boys’ Basketball
The Junior High athletes earned the respect of their coach, school, and community during the 1986 season with the cooperation, hustle, and desire displayed throughout the many practice sessions and games. The 8th grade team never gave up and consistently showed improvement. The 7th grade team displayed some excellent team work and sound basketball skills as they recorded a perfect 10-0 season record. The highlight of their season was capturing the championship trophy at the Black Hawk Tournament. Both the 7th and 8th grade teams including managers can be very proud of also winning the Sportsmanship Trophy.
