We will grieve at his absence but long remember his pleasant character. 2SCHOOL LIFE IS . . . waiting for your part in band, handing your make-up slip to Mr. Hassel, water-coloring grapes, being distracted by noisy librarians, picking up the wrong purse after home ec., waiting to knock a pinata to pieces, studying hard when you'd rather be doing something else, throwing your coat on the floor instead of hanging it up and then trying to find it again, planning to escape through the window only to find it's a long way down. 4SCHOOL LIFE IS . . . spiking a point in volleyball, hoping your phy ed uniform holds together during girls' intermural basketball, watching another boring filmstrip in English, reading in comfort on the piano bench, finishing your practice set in bookkeeping, typing the same warm-up exercise for the third day in a row, discovering you used a pattern two sizes too large. 7SCHOOL LIFE IS . . . waiting for Mr. Herrick to bring the cars to play with on the traffic board, comparing one extreme to the other, just plain talking, drawing funny faces on the board, discovering they don't make cheese in Africa, trying to figure out what you're eating at hot lunch, holding a fire extinguisher as a security blanket, pitching pennies in the john, constantly moving chairs from building to building. 8910ARGYLE BEAUTY SALON Owner—Mary Flanagan Telephone 543-6471 BAUMGARTNER CHEESE STORE, INC. A rustic bridge led prom-goers into the mystic outdoor atmosphere highlighted by shimmering lights and glistening fountains. Queen and king (right) were Ceri Flanagan and David Moen. Members of the court were (bottom, left to right across both pages) Mike Schellenger, Bernie Pink, Zonagale Matley, Greg Rossing, Tom Arnot. Ardis Jacobson, Geri Hassenfelt and Myron Olson. 22HOMECOMING 69 24 Queen Carol Daly King Mark AndersonMembers of the homecoming court were (above, left to right) seniors Bemie Pink and Daryl Berget, juniors Suzanne McMannes and David Thompson, sophomores Dorothy Flanagan and Stanley Campbell, freshmen Diane DeNure and Tom Ritschard. Decorations for the gym were a variety of the many touches of autumn. Multicolored leaves surrounded the crowning area while corn shocks and gourds enhanced the stage. 25The homecoming parade was great, for a change the weather didn't fall in drops from the sky. There were more than the usual number of floats entered thanks to the cooperation of Argyle's fine businessmen. First prize in the class floats went to the Juniors for "Plunging for Victory." 26llr Compliments of R. But 24 hours later, on Feb. 21, the Orioles were league champs, sharing the title with Black Hawk. The team's record of 14 wins and 4 losses includes double overtime victories against New Glarus and Black Hawk, 3 and 6 point losses to our jinx team Brodhead, a 6 point loss to Blanchardville and a 9 point loss to Black Hawk. The other 12 games did not provide as much anxiety to our fine following of fans--they loved our victories. The team shot 39% from the floor to the opponents' 41% but we limited them to 12 less shots per game. The Orioles outrebounded their rivals 828 to 564, setting a new team record of 366 offensive rebounds. 283 record shattering assists were responsible for many easy buckets. The team was a well-knit unit with exceptional talent in senior Mark Anderson, third leading scorer in Argyle history. He led in field goals (138), f.g. percentage (.455), free throws (99), a record f.t. percentage of .825, total points (375) and assists (81). He received a trophy from coach Jueds when he reached the goal of scoring over 1000 points. Greg Penniston led in rebounds with 1214, just two more than Mike Curtis, Mike Schellenger's fine ball handling and 73 assists helped as did Steve Nelson's outside shooting (.373). TOP.
