FOOTBALL
The Argyle Orioles began their 1953 Football season by losing to
South Wayne, 24 to 12, in a non-league game. Determined for a comeback,
Argyle crushed Juda in a hard-fought game, 34 to 18, the following week.
Brooklyn was Argyle's foe on Homecoming day, and the crowd witnessed
a thrilling, wild scoring game which finally ended in Argyle's favor, 48
to 44. Inspired by this win, the Orioles whipped Orfordville, 24 to 12, and
at this point of the season Argyle was tied for first place in the State Line
League. However, championship hopes were dimmed as a revengeful Brod-
head team smashed Argyle, 45 to 38, and this was followed by another
defeat, 32 to 22, inflicted by New Glarus. The next game matched Argyle
against Blanchardville in a bruising defensive battle. Blanchardville won,
14 to 6, in one of the best games of the season. Argyle finished the season
by tripping Belleville, 44 to 40. Eight Seniors will be missing from the
squad when football practice resumes next season. Incidentally, this was
the last 6-man football team A.H.S. may ever have as the league will play
8 man football next year Many of the remaining boys possess a great
deal of talent and if they make use of it there should be a strong squad
to represent Argyle in this new 8 man game
