A dictionary states a fad is a custom or styie
that many peopie are interested in for a short
time. Here at Argos, we have seen and worn
many different styles. Remember wearing
rainbow shirts and wearing nyion parachute
pants in the eariy 80's'? Tight ieans, baggy
jeans f they come and go. We can never stop
this changing of styies. We can oniy took tor-
ward to what comes next.

bove - The Class of 1989 reacts with tears, smiles, and joy as they are
'esented to the audience by Principal Ted Chittum.
On June 4, 1989, at 2:30 p.m., the 103rd Annual Graduation Exercise
started to recognize the 55 members in the Class of 89. The class marched to
their seats two by two to the Processional "Pomp and Circumstance" per-
formed by the High School Band. The Invocation was given by Rev. Jack
Rhoads of the United Methodist Church. The High School Choir sang
t'Passages."
Mr. Tracy Rowe of the School Board presented each Senior with his
diploma. Rev. Richard Dean of the Argos Wesleyan Church gave the Bene-
diction.
The Class of 1989 marched out of the gym, two by two, knowing that they
had completed the final step in their 13 years at Argos Community Schools.
They lined up on the walk in front of the school. When everyone was in
position, they tossed their caps into the air - a gesture to symbolize the end
of being part of AHS and the beginning of young adulthood.
Upper Left - Tammy Ellis delivers her farewell address "Performing Arts"
with much emotion. Upper Right - The members of the Senior Ensemble
perform "One Moment in Time." Center Left - Senior Class President Eric
Barlow delights the audience with his speech entitled "What Are We Doing
Here?" Center Right - Valedictorian Matt Krom receives his diploma from

Our 1989 musical - "Oliver" - was presented by the
Argos Music Department on April 14 and 15. "Oliver" was
directed by Tami Brock, and Nancy Miller served as the
assistant director.
"Oliver" was about a boy from an English workhouse who
fell into the hands of rogues who train him to be a pickpock-
et. The story of his struggle to escape from an environment
of crime was one of hardship, danger, and severe obstacles
to overcome.

lNTERVIEW WITH COACH BOYD DAVIS
What were the Highlights of the 88-89 basketball season?
One of the highlights was having the 1979 team back for a reunion. Other
highlights included scoring over 100 points against Knox and beating
Tippecanoe Valley.
What was your most difficult victory?
One of our most difficult victories was beating Oregon Davis at Oregon
Davis. It was a great win, especially early in the year.
Was there anything new in the basketball program this year?
We had new scoreboards and lights in the gymnasiumq
Comments:
We finished the season 10-10 which was not quite as good as we had
hoped. Our preseason goal was to win a tournament, but we were unable
to do so. The season had ups and downs with wins over Oregon Davis,
Tippecanoe Valley, and Triton being ups. Our losses to CMA, Bremen,
and John Glenn were downs. This team did not accomplish all of its
goals, but it was a very exciting team to watch.

Jolinda Lucas was the new Varsity Basket-
ball coach this year. She graduated from Indi-
ana State University with a B.S. in Physical
Education and Health. Miss Lucas thinks that
the highlight of the 88-89 season was the fact
that the girls had their "first Win in almost
three years." She feels that: "As a team, the
girls' ball handling and skill level increased.
The program has been down for so long that
we fthe coaching staffb are trying to build con-
fidence and that was probably the hardest
part this year."

What happens when you have
to give an oral report in front of
your classmates? Do you break
out in a rash, get a queasy feeling
in your stomach, feel faint? The
number one fear among many
people is speaking before a
group. But the speech class here
at AHS teaches a person to con-
trol and use stagefright to his ad-
vantage. The class also helps
each student develop organiza-
tion and outlining skills, critical
listening methods, and delivery
techniques.
In today's complex world, the
spoken word is probably the
most influential means of com-
municating. So, speaking effec-
tively is one of the greatest assets
a person can have. The end goal
of public speaking is to help each
student think, write, speak, and
listen effectively, intelligently,
and responsibly.
Will Rogers once commented,
t'Everybody is ignorant, only on
different subjects." But in speech
class the student learns how in-
teresting and creative his class-
mates are. Demonstrate speeches

topic, everyone in speech class
profits from another's knowledge
and talent.

The geometry class examined
all types of shapes to determine
how they are related. Students
learned to measure distances
across rivers while standing on
one side, computed weights of
trees without getting splinters
from climbing up them, and
worked with logic to determine
what a statement actually says.
In general math, the class re-
viewed basic arithmetic and
went on to other topics including
geometry, probability, and alge-
bra. Activities included deter-
mining the probability a thumb-
tack will land on its back,
determining the number Pi, and
locating the geometric figures
around us.
In Senior Math, the class
looked at the foundation of any
mathematical system. They con-

with flat surfaces on a round

The last year of the 80s has been
one of many new experiences for ele-
mentary students of Argos. This
year several new programs were in-
troduced to students K - 6. Among
these programs were the Christmas
Toy Drive, Student Mini Courses,
Project Lead, and the Media Fair.
At Christmas, the elementary stu-
dents joined together to collect toys
to be distributed to more than 50
children in our area.
The Student Mini Courses were
designed to acquaint the students
with skills needed in today's society.
Among the courses taught were
Typing, Shorthand, Woods, Story
Telling, Sign Language, and Com-
puters. Enrollment in these courses
totaled 91 students.
One of the most exciting programs
consisted of the Media Fair. Stu-
dents involved competed with stu-
dents from area schools to go to the
State competition. Miss Miller's 2nd
graders won this competition with
an original story entitled "The
Ghost Who Could Not Flyf' They
placed first in the Audio Tape cate-
gory at the State.
Some of the field trips taken by
elementary students this year in-
cluded those to Bigley's in Culver,
the Old Historic Fort in Ft. Wayne,
the Potowatomi Zoo in South Bend,
the Ft. Wayne Children's Zoo, Pota-
to Creek State park, the South Bend

Tired of monthly fees on
checking and annual
fees on VISA?
Join Teachers Credin Union for no fee checking and no annual
fee VISA. These are just two of the many desirable benefits of
membership in TCU. In addition to no fees or per check charge,
a TCU checking account actually pays. You receive interest on
quarterly balances of S750 or more.
You won't find a better VISA card than TCU's. There's no
annual fee... a significant savings alone. And the interest rate
is likely much lower than any other charge card you carry.
You can join! For the full details on all the benefits, call or stop
by today. Meet our friendly staff and see why Teachers Credit
Union is the only financial source you'll ever need.

RGUS DRAGONS
The end of the 80s is a time to look back at
the past and a time to look forward to the 90s.
The end of a decade always brings speculation
as to what challenges the new decade will
bring in terms of the future - college, jobs,
marriage, children, and scientific advance-
ments.
In looking back, we remember the Historical
Tour we took in fourth grade and our visits to
Potawatomi Zoo and McDonalds. We remem-
ber Pioneer Day and studying dinasaurs in
third grade and having picnics in the school
yard. We played dodge ball, and the boys
pushed their girlfriends on the swings. In high
school we had our sixteenth birthdays and
obtained our first driver's license. We went on
our first date, had fun at the school dances,
sold magazines, sponsored a chicken dinner,
and went on a field trip to the IUSB Library
for Comp class. We went to Florida over
spring break and had fun hanging around at
J0e's. In the summers, we worked on our 4-H
projects, our part-time jobs, and played base-
ball and softball. We will never forget our
school years during the 80s. Yet we look for-
ward to the 90s and the decades after that.
