CLASS PRUPHECY
19 1 Graduates
One mormng ID the yefrr 1965 I was vuorkrng around the house as usual when the postman
came vxrth a specral dellvery letter from Washrngton Bemg currous as to what the letter con
tfuned If dxdn t take long to open nt To my surprise If was from my old school churn Ila Herrin
who vas nova marrred to a very prosperous statesman and had settled down rn Washington to raise
a famrly She rnvrted me to come and spend a few days wrth her slnce we hadn t seen each other
for such a long tlme Th1s excrted me very much so I went next door to my nerghbor Joyce
Mc Chesney Joyce was also a school chum of lla s and I took the lrberty and asked her to make
the mp mth me
Tvuo days later oyce and I were on the tram headed for Washrngton Just as we were gettlng
settled along came the conductor To our surprrse there was Earl Erler collectrng the trckets
I'arl made our trxp a pleasant one When we arrrved at our destrnatlon lla was there to meet us
She was happy that Joyce came along Before gorng to lla s home she had to stop at the Capxtol
Burldrng to see her husband and saxd she wouldn t be long Srnce thrs was owce s and mx
frrst trxp to Washxngton we decrded to look around As we were vrewrng the buldrngs oyce
yelled out Oh no' But yes yes rt was Devane Sherwood' We found out after a chat that
Devane was a pamter Just lrke hrs father He was at this trme pamtxng the White House We
also found out that Brll Clarke was a new senator and Dean Lewrs was a representatrve and both
were makrng great progress It wasn t long before lla returned from her errand When we arrrved
home lla started preparrng supper and plannrng for the nlght ahead Later that evemng Ila took
dorng qurte well We hadn t been there long when Don yorned our table and we four talked about
the Good Old School Days The floor show was about to begxn so our attentron turned to this
The show consrsted of four acrobats who proved to be W1ll1s Burroughs hrs wnfe and twrn gxrls
The speed and easrness of the team held the complete admxratron of the crowd the full length of
the show A short trme later we brd Don a farewell as thxs had been a full day for Joyce and me
Whrle drrvrng home through the busy sectton we notrced a crowd of people around two wrecked
cars Bemg curnous we stopped and found rt to be Fred Baumgart and Harold Fear who had
collrded wrth a truck One of the fxrst persons to shovs up was Chref George Shunk who rmmedn
ately took the boys mto Court Srnce we knew these boys we yust had to go along The case
was presented to Judge McCune The boys pard therr fme then we all chatted for some trme It
was nndeed gettmg quxte late so we departed so that we mrght get some rest
The next afternoon lla took us to a very exclusrve restaurant for lunch The proprretor bemg
the former Ilzene Hardesty had a famrly of three lrttle Htghts
Later that afternoon me were mvxted to a four o clock tea at the home of another one of our
old schoolmates Bonme Vanata Thrs was qurte a large affarr and we especrally notrced so
many chrldren Bonme told us that twelve of the lrttle angels belonged to her She also told us
that she had two prrvate nurses Ruth Wrght and Normalee Pflughaupt who came each day to help
her take care of the chxldren
The next day we attended a fashron show Thrs was really very beautrful and xt was all the
work of Connre Masterman assrsted by Ann Van Der Weele who were both dress desrgners
On the way home we stopped at the frllmg statron There we saw Gene Rowe and learned
that he was an executrve of the Standard O11 Company
After arrrvmg at lla s we sat down to relax and lrstened to the radro There was a lady grvmg
a speech about the condrtrons rn Europe When she fmrshed we found rt to be Karolma Lauer
who had returned from Germany to become a crtrzen of the Unrted States
After havmg stayed a lrttle longer than Joyce and I had rntended we decrded that we should
return by arr So we proceeded to the arrport where we boarded a plane whrch was bound for
Chrcago To our amazement we found that the stewardess was Bonme Andrews
We enyoyed our trrp and arrrved home tnred but happy after experxencrng the Joy of seemg
our old school frrends
