preparing to proceed into a world once again at peace. To them, whether
in college or in the world of business, will come many experiences of a
kind vastly different from those encountered in high school. We hope
that, in the years to come, this annual will serve to bring back to all,
recollections of happy days spent in Ardsley High.

show the importance of music in a peaceful world. The field of music is
rich in songs glorifying the land we all love. Though the medium of
song we can eloquently express our appreciation for "America the

To Mr. A. W, Silliman, Mrs. C. E. Parsons, Miss H. G. Robbie, Miss
E. Davis, Mr. W. Duke Ill, and all those who so willingly gave of their
time and eneigx we extend oui sinceie gi atitude

Vaisitx pi actice call came in early November Thirty five boys
iepoited and were gixen basic instructions and practice Aftel several
piactices the squad xx as dixided into three parts Vai sity Junior Varsity
and Supplementary squads At first vue thought it would be pretty rough
going this year because we had but one man Joe Calace Mottola left from
last vear s val sity squad How ever with the addition of a new boy Walter
Kurkela, and a well balanced team of last year's J. V.'s, a varsity was
whipped together by Coach Horend ready to brave Commerce away from
home before Christmas. Correcting early season faults in January the
team won five and lost but one,-that to Irvington. Illness fouled the com-
bination during early February resulting in two losses, a win, and two
more losses. A high spot of the season was the marvelous exhibition of
skill, endurance and "scrap" put on by Ardsley against Bronxville, a much
larger school. Ardsley pulled the fat from the fire a number of times only
to lose in the last moment by two points.
At this writing, plans are incomplete for the State Section Tourna-
ment which cannot be held in County Center this year. Ardsley is entered
and is also scheduled to play a return match with the Veteran alumni, the
proceeds of which will be donated to the Red C1'oss.

The opening season of volley ball found a group
of over fifty girls eager to stalt the sports year
Because most of our expert players had been gradu-
ated we w ere surprised to find such stiff competi-
tion among the various teams Soccer also on our
list of sports show ed itself popular When most of
the games had to be d1SCOUHt8d because of the un
expected cold spell the girls then enthusiastically
turned to basketball Four teams were picked the
rivalry was intense The games enlivened the sports
pi ogi am until March when an honor team was
selected This team was comprised of those girls
who had done outstanding work during the basket
ball season
Spring now finds us looking forw aid to soft ball
games

The Honor Society, founded in 1923, is one of the largest
of its kind in Westchester County. The main emphasis at
first was placed on scholarship. Since many industrious,
worthy students were excluded, scholarship requirements
were somewhat reduced, and effort, service and attendance
added to the qualifications. The regulations now make it
possible for all ambitious, willing students to gain member-
shrp rn the organrzatron
When the organrzatron became so large rt was necessary
to establish a governing bodv three degrees were formed
namely the First Degree emphasizing attendance and con
duct Second Degree emphasrzrng servrce and scholarship
over a perrod of frve years, and the executive body consrstrng
of ten members stressing leadershrp and character Durrng
the year the rnrtratrons are conducted by the Thrrd Degree
The Frrst Degree Inrtratron at which 35 students became
members was held on October 24 The Honorable Walter G
Seely was the speaker Sur prrse Honorary Awards were grven
to Mrs C P Benedict and Miss Florence Egbertson
In February movres were enJoyed by the members and
plans are under way for the Second and Third Degree

Troop No '3 is the third oldest troop rn Hendrick Hudson Council Dating ba k
to 1919 rt has served the people of Ardsley for over twenty six years
The year 1945 represented what was probably the greatest year in the history of
our troop for it brought us the third Eagle Scout rn our history and the first in over
five prior years It was a singular honor for Scout Edwin Stone when his mother
pinned on him the highest award in Scouting The Badge of an Eagle Scout
In 1945 our hxplor Scout Pxtrol struck out on its own to become a full fledged
Fxplorer Outfit wrt Rueben Look as Leader This program is designed for young
men fifteen years of age and over either with or without PYCVIOUS scout experience
We have high hopes that a great many former scouts will visit the Explorer Meetings
and perhaps revive their interest in the Scouting Movement
Troop 3 a Camping Troop participated in and won two Camp O Rees at Douglas
Park North Tarrytown The last one of these extended over three nights and two days
with pouring rain from start to finish
For Community Service our Scouts 3SSlSt9d the Lions Club with the Salvage
Campaign aided the War Bond Drive and assisted Ferncllff Cemetery at their annual
Easter Service Camp Woebuck was again made available to the Lions Club for their
annual family picnic
For special events we had in addition to the Eagle Presentation our annual
Parents Night featuring a model camp exhibit the annual Father Kr Son Dinner and
the Scout Circus Carnival
Lamp VS oebuck our camp and cabin on Heatherdell Road was host to about 150
Scouts and Leaders in the Fall for a Camp-O-Ree. Again our Scouts had an oppor-
tunity to demonstrate their camping skills.
We are extremely grateful to Mr. Gaarder Mr. William Duke and Mr. Donald H.
Randall of Troop No. 6 North Tarrytown N.Y. for their skilled assistance in the
camp construction. To the many other men who served with distinction in this project
we express our appreciation.
The success of any Scout Troop depends largely upon the Boy Leaders and a
grand job they did. Credit must go to Patrol Leaders Lester MacLeod Herbert Karl
Lyman Kipp and Charles Buckes. Edwin Stone turned in a fine job as Senior Patrol
Leader. Assistant Scoutmaster Woessner and members of the Troop Committee were
of great assistance in administering the program.
We all look forward to bigger and better Scouting in 1946 with an ever increasing
number of boys joining up so that our community can truly say: Young Men-Scout
Trained-For Participating Citizenshipf

GIRL Clllll'
America is as beautiful as the boys and girls who live here make it The program
of scouting is geared to keeping America the land of the free and the home of
the blave
In Ardsley Gnl Scouting is keeping pace with a progressing world and 1945 46
was a year of rapid growth. The Lions Club of Ardsley continued its sponsorship of
the Ardsley Girl Scouts: the newly organized Ardsley Girl Scout Association was
enlarged: the Ardsley Players gave a benefit performance for the Girl Scouts to help
them realize their dream of a scout cabin, and best of all the number of girl scout
troops was doubled-there are now four troops! We are so proud of our Brownies.
The slogan "Every girl in Ardsley a Girl Scout" has made many more homes
scout conscious. The Brownies are happy in work or playg the Intermediates are learn-
ing useful and profitable services "to other people at all times" through their badge
workg they are stressing international friendship which is so timely and worthyg finally,
the Seniors are wonderfully industrious with their shop course. Throughout the whole
scout program this year there have been entertainment, sociability, comradeship, and
a love for the good and beautiful in America-all seen through the eyes of Ardsley's
Girl Scouts.

The two aims of the music department this year have been to give a large magorrty
of the pupils pleasurable musical experiences and to foster and develop the talent of
those pupils with outstanding ability In the grades the singing of enJoyable and
interesting songs is emphasized The upper grades stress music reading and the place
of music in American culture Folk songs particularly American folk songs are
memorized
The girls chorus of forty eight voices have presented several assembly programs
Together with the other choruses they presented a Christmas assembly at which they
sang Schuberts Ave Maria At other programs they have presented numbers by
romantic and modern composers including Jerome Kern Cole Porter and George
Gershwin
The male chorus of forty voices has learned a number of songs from various
branches of the service as well as Joining with the girls chorus to form a mixed
chorus The Junior chorus composed of girls in the seventh and eighth grades has
assisted at special programs
The eighteen piece band has worked largely on school songs and marches They
have plaved for several of the basketball games The orchestra has been working for
good tone quality and instrumental balance. So far as possible class lessons and private
lessons are given on all of the band and orchestra instruments free of charge. Certain
of the less common instruments are owned by the school and loaned to the most
promising pupils. A drum and bugle corps consisting of six drummers ten buglers and
four drum majorettes offers excellent training in rhythm and in marching. They have
also played for basketball games.
All of the music organizations have tried to work with the other departments of
the school to make well-rounded cultured citizens.
