CLASS HISTORY One decade and three years ago 16 children started to Archer School. They were Gladys Akeson, Bruce Baxter, Mavis Bilsland, Beverly Bonderman, Glenn Bonderman, Betty Jean Clark, Dale Dewaay, Jessie Haddon, Shirley Harms, Stanley Muilenburg, Eubene Nieuwen- huis, Duane Peterson, Robert Stallman, Velma Steffins, Mollie Schwartz, and Charlene Westphal. The teacher that started us in our new adventure was Miss Moyers. That year we took part in two all grade activities, a circus and nThe Wedding of Jack and Jilln. We also, took part in an outside school activity-measles. That was the year that we built our train out of boxes. In the first grade our outside activity was whooping cough. Miss Abele was our teach- er. Our class was momentarily enlarged by Laworonce Chambers who was with us about two months. In moving into the 2nd and 5rd grade room we lost one member, Robert Stallman. Velma Stoffins moved to Primghar during the year but Arnold Leng entered to keep our number at 15. Miss Den Hartog was our very patient and helpful teacher in the 2nd and 5rd grades. It was in the 3rd grade that Jacquelyn DeRoos joined us from a country school. In the fourth grade, we were met by Miss Brown, who was our teacher for the year. There were 17 of us that started, for we gained Mary Ann Wilts. we must have been tiring for Miss Brown turned us over to Mrs. Williams for the fifth grade. During the Sth grade we gained Andy Zylstra, Edna Vellinga, and Darrell Roetman, all of whom camo from country schools and also, another student, Sadie Ovorman, who moved into town, we lost Arnold Long who moved to Primghar. During the year, thef4th Sth, 6th, and 7th grades presented the oporetta, King Puddin' Head the III which we all took part in. This was directed by Miss Bjork, the 6th and 7th grade teacher and Mrs. Williams. In the sixth grade we had our largest class of 21. Our latest additions being Robert W. and Delmar Funderman. Miss Bjork was our teacher and taught us much about wood working and sowing. In the spring some of the pupils started moving from Archer. Andy Zylstra moved to Washington, Edna Vellinga moved to Sheldon, and Darrell Roetman moved to Hospers. In the summer of the same year Betty Jean Clark moved to Sanborn and Mollie Schwartz moved to Primghar. Because of the 5 pupils that moved in the spring and summer there were only 16 in the 7th grade until Allan Bertelsen and Junior Vander Sluis joined us. Miss Mc- Nutt was our teacher and we all had a fine time. The boy's Jr. High Basketball team defeated Sheldon 14 to 9 as the outstanding event of the year, which made everyone proud. When the last day of school came we found everyone would be with us on the next floor of the school the coming fall. We came into the eighth grade with 2 new students added, Elfaye and Dwayne Guno. They were only with us about 2 weeks then we were back to our same 18. Coming into tho eighth grade really made us feel big for new we get to walk up to that upper story and sit in that large room referred to as the as- sembly. Also instead of having one teacher we had a number of them. Our teachers that year were Mr. Ehlert, Mrs. Fleming, Mrs. Adams, Mr. Garrison, and Supt. Butson. we took part in all the high school activities such as glee club, parties, and athletics. Many things happened to us while we were in the eighth grade. The thought of initiation made us think we were really growing up but after we
