Finally in the spring of 1942 we reached the climax of our grade

were pretty 'bio , but the upper classmen soon changed our winds
Our sponsors vere hr and Irs ain Social activities for
that vear included a Chrlstmas party and a tacky party
When we became Sophomores, our awe of upperclassnen vanished
Our llves took a different meanlno The boys became aware of thdm
appearance and the irl began bebglnv for make up klts W will
alw ys remember our sponsor Irs Chester Crowley, and the nice
1inbs she planned for us, such as the Vlchita skatin party W
wen skatlnc and then had a picnlc The only addition to our ohms
that year wa Charles Coleman An old member of our class
Kenneth Self who nad wlthdrawn durlng grade school, returned
Next came our Junlor year which was marked by several excltinb
events Junior play, the ordering of our Senior T1HbS, and the
Junlor Senior Banquet Corsages pressed in every Dirl's scrap
book brin s memories afresh of the occasion The Junior senior

I ing mv mvstic powers, I visualize myself in the little town of Archer
City on a beautiful eveninb in October in the year 1960 Everywhere in the
town are hupe posters reading, Old Home teek U Iany days ago, invitations
we e ent to all former residents urging them to attend and stressinb parti
cularly this evenino when a wonderful entertalnment is to be Diver The tal
ent for this program is to be strlctly home talent Every p rformer was at
one time a resident of this town and was graduated from our hluh school
The hour for the great event has arrixed Everv seat inthe vast new audi
torlum is filled, and all aze eagerly awaiting the performance in whmch many
deli htful urprises have been promised The platform is a mass of beautiful
flowels and autumn leave and the walls are hung with Uarlands of pine and
laurel It is truly a festive occasion
Seated in the audience are many celebrities As I look about me I see a
nunoer OL 'Q old classmates There lS Eugene dyrne, our kind hearted frlend
who beca e very wealth tkroubh wise investments, and is now a noted prilanth
roplst His money LS payin for much of the Old dome heck expenditures
The ladies in the front seats are all so stylishly and becomingly dre sed
that they arouse mv curiosity I an told that their beautiful garments came
from the very select, not to say expenslve shop of Carla Jear Childs, who de
signs gowns fo: all the best dressed women in the country She is here her
s f and looks Uthe glas of fashion and the mold of form '
Seated near her
property that he has
Fe has given the use
long to him Seated
Charles Coleman, a real estate dealer who owns so much
keep a card index of it in order to know lt himself
the auditorium and the spacious park, both of whichbe
one side, watching with interest, I see Jean Baughman,
dionlfied and haughty I ask about her and am told that she is the head mis
trees of a very fashionable girls' school in Anarene and has never married
althoufh she has titors innumerable
Standing in the door, lookinb for old friends T f1nd Frank Netberlain,
editor of the largest daily paper in the state Except that he has grown a
trifle stouter and looks more cheerful than ever, he has not changed one bit
since his high school days Two people, entering, receive a warm reception
lrom the committee at the door They are Dr Ordener, a famous surgeon in a
larbe hospital, and, attractive as ever, Felen Gary, superintendent of nurses
in the same nospital If there are any accidents to night we feel sure h
sufferer will be pronerlv attended to with Bernard and Ielen on the Job
A round of applause greets the man just taking a seat by the window H
looks familiar and yet not quite familiar enough I can't tell who he is Ah,
he waves h1s hand around are talks excitedlv Now, T know who he is Claude
Poberts And what do you suppose he is9 Remember how he used to love astron
ony and meteorolovy and all that stuffo He's turned his knowledge to good
account and now he is the weather man Fe is, indeed It was he whofurnished
the splendid weather for the Old Home Week, and that is why he was so wildly
applauded Every day he sends out his little bulletins and often the weather
is Just as he predicted
A woman is sketching the people as the: come ln and doing it very well,
indeed, for I peep over her shoulder to see Of course you know who that is.
Yes, 1t's Helen Heard They say she has become quite famous as an illustrator
of magazine stories and newspaper articles Remember her drawings in class?
Ano now the entertainment is to begin There is a hushed expectancy
The lights in the auditorium fade and the footlights flash on
But first attention is called to the beautiful flowers and other decora
tions, saying that they were the gift of Aby Lou Childs, now the leading
florlst of the town I remember her exquisite taste in decorations in years
gone by and am not at all surprised
