I Nwnv'n nrnhu, - W- Nw 'ffffffa TQEHQYH W, , , 144 ,A , , . 4 .,A4,A, or On September l, 1955, only six of the twenty one Senlors of '46 began their school life in Archer City They were Pat King, Rob Ray, Carla Childs, Aby Childs, Helen Heard, and Kenneth Self As the years rolled by, new members enrolled and others dropped out The second brade brought Bernard Ordener, and the third Pauline Moore, Jean Baughman, Gene Bell, and Laverne Wilhoit New students for the fourth and fifth were Marie Pryor and Jack Loftin Finally in the spring of 1942 we reached the climax of our grade school days We recelved our dlplomas and began looking forward very anxiouslv to the beginnlng of school the next fall, when ve woulb become Freshmen Our freshman year started off wlth a bang We now had sixty five members in our class New members were Fugene Byrne, Peggy Agee, and Frank Netnerlain for the first nmnth we thou ht we were pretty 'bio , but the upper classmen soon changed our winds Our sponsors vere hr and Irs ain Social activities for that vear included a Chrlstmas party and a tacky party When we became Sophomores, our awe of upperclassnen vanished Our llves took a different meanlno The boys became aware of thdm appearance and the irl began bebglnv for make up klts W will alw ys remember our sponsor Irs Chester Crowley, and the nice 1inbs she planned for us, such as the Vlchita skatin party W wen skatlnc and then had a picnlc The only addition to our ohms that year wa Charles Coleman An old member of our class Kenneth Self who nad wlthdrawn durlng grade school, returned Next came our Junlor year which was marked by several excltinb events Junior play, the ordering of our Senior T1HbS, and the Junlor Senior Banquet Corsages pressed in every Dirl's scrap book brin s memories afresh of the occasion The Junior senior Banquet, which followed a fairy scheme, was held at the Delphian Club on ay 4 The plav, The Ghost Walksu, was held on March 16 Characters were Helen Iear , Thurman Matthews iarie Pryor, Betty lcCurdy, Vlroll Holbrook, Patsy Kino, Jack Loftln, Peg y Agee, and Laverne Wllholt Ve went to Wichita on another skating party which was as enjoyable as the one the year before Cur Chrlstnas party was held ln the Homemakin Department Lorene Rater and Joy Nallen became members of our cla s hlss Vifbll Green and Miss Viola iarben our sponsors, were responsible fo our 5006 times Then came the dream we once thou ht unobtalnable were now S9UlOPSl The boal we had been looking toward for ten long years had flnally been reached New members for the class that year were helen Gary, who was elected football queen, and Claude Roberts, who, after returning from the Army, started back to school Five of our favorite class members of the xear before did not cone back They were Betty McCurdy, who moved away, Dickey Stanford and Virgil Holbrook, who Jolned the Navr, Kathr-n Stranse, who became ill, and Jane Duncan, who passed from tlis llfe forever Forever will linger in our hinds our sponsor, hr uerron, and our Senior act1v1t1es Our Christmas party given by Mrs feard, our valentine party given by Miss Pearcy, our Wichita skating and eater party, our Senior play, The Campbells Are Comlngn our Senior week, the nice banquet the Junlors gave us, commencement baccalaureate and our Senior trip As we leave the stage of h1 h school, we wlll take wlth us keeplno brlbht and ever untarnished, the pride and honor of the Senior Class of 1945 46 5:5 ,dezwah '?v2'?Z'i' O ff .ff 'lt' rj? On the afternoon of September 28, the Wildcats Journeyed down to Newcastle where they were defeated by a score of 19 0 The Wildcats threatened once in the first quarter, carring the ball to Newcastle's 5 yard line, but lost it there on a fumble The Bobcats scored in the second quarter at the end of a 55 yard drive The Bobcats scored again in the 3rd period on a blocked punt and once more in the 4th period on an intercepted pass However, the game was closer than the ceptlonaly good On October 5, muddy field and indicated The score indicated as beth teams raced up 5 first downs. An game was played by the tackles, ends, and linebackers the Wildcats played host to the Wichita Falls Rowdies on a were defeated 12 O Again the game was closer than the score Rowdies were behind in everything but the score. According to other statistics the Wildcats held a clean margin with five lst downs to 1 124 yards rushing to 42, and no penalties to 15 yards against the Rowdies. On October 12, the Wildcats took the Rochester Steers to a 14 O cleaning The first touchdown was scored by Knox who took a pass from Winn and raced 55 yards to score. Winn passed to Meredith for the extra point The second touchdown came aftew a series of line bucks with Winn carrying over center to score. Another pass Winn to McDaniel, was good for the second extra point Guantt, weighing about 125 pounds, was Rochester's star player and one of the best broken field runners seen here this year Abbott, Bell, and Hoggins were the stars of the game Thny shattered Rochester passing attacks time and again On October 19, the Wildcats played one of their best games of the season in defeating the Chillicothe Eagles 15 6 This was our first conference game and also the first time for the Wildcats to beat Chillicothe in seventeen years, The first touchdown was made by Knox and Jinn passed to Veredith, who made beautiful catch for the extra point Bell then kicked off, and Chillicothe began a drive that resulted in an Eagle score by Mordicia The try for extra point failed leaving the score 7 6 Then ln the last quarter Winn carried the ball for 30 yards around left end for the second Wildcat touchdown The try for the extra point failed and the game ended a few minutes later with the Wildcats on the Chillicothe 5 yard line with lst and 10 to go It might sald that in this game, expeclally the second half, the entlre team showed well The line was cracking open the holes, and the backfield was adding the yardage Meredith, Winn, Abbott, and Matthews were outstanding players in On the following Friday the Wildcats went to Haskell and there, in a ruw scramble, emerged victors by a 13 7 score. After a hard played but scoreless first half, the Haskell Indians scored early in the third period to take a 7 0 lead after the try for extra point was good. Later in the third period Meredith went over right tackle for some 25 yards to score The Cat's second score came on a pass and lateral with Knox passing to McDaniel and then a lateral to Meredith, who ran 30 yards untouched for the six points McDaniel kicked the point and the game ended at 15 7 Meredith and Loftin were the stars of this game Two weeks later, November 9 the Wildcats played host to their rivals, the Holliday Eagles The game was played on a muddy field with rain from start to finish The Cats won the toss and received After gaining eight yards in dues plays, the Cats were forced to kick and winn got off a beauty that died on the Eagle ll yard line.
