BAD The Carroll Band has been an important fac- tor in carrying the name and spirit of the school beyond the limits of our own campus. This versa- tile organization provides a stirring medley of spirited tunes at athletic contests and, in their winter and spring concerts, shows its mastery of classical music as well. The conductor of the Band, Mr. Raymond Hart, has capably drilled the bandsmen in a wide range of marches and concert pieces. Father Stein- man and Father Shurer are moderators. Members of the band bedecked in full rvegalia proudly stand in formation. This year the band spent many long hours practicing the formations which they used in their numerous public appearances. Mr. Raymond Hart, band director, and the members of the concert band enioy a momentary break in their almost never- ending practice. , W 575' mx Fr. Shurer and Fr. Steinman confer with Mr. Hart in an apparently hilarious discussion of prospective numbers to be included in the band's fast-growing repertoire.

Shurer. Above, part of the band is seen in full-dress uniform ready to march. Their half time shows during the football season won them many a warm round of applause. A friendly argument is always a pleasant way to pass the time while waiting for practice to begin. Here sophomore bandsman Skruch pulls rank on freshmen Howe, Culloty, and lo Jacono.

TDET GARD Fallen human nature being what it is-and it seems to be more so among teen-agers-there is the regrettable necessity of curbing the exuberance which sometimes leads to disorder. The Student Guards were organized for the purpose of reducing this problem to a minimum. During the lunch periods the Student Guards are stationed on the stairways, in the cafeteria, and at other points of congestion to keep unruly freshmen Qand othersj in hand. Nick Bariolomeo, assigned to duty in the cafeteria, checks to see if Torn Bishop, Larry Reed, Joe Torre, and Danny McGuire are getting their daily quota of vitamins. left: Fr.
